Immagine an addiction as strong as heroin. My boyfriend quit smoking after 18 years and it has been almost a year of him not smoking, and he still thinks about smoking every day. His mom died a very painful death from lung cancer at 43. He was there watching her die at 13 years old, and still picked up and continued smoking.
It's tough. Most people get addicted before they are even legally allowed to smoke in the US, (18).

I work in a library at a local college and I see more people that are in the nursing field smoking. If that doesn't make you want to stay out of Dr. and hospitals I don't know what will.

Its like this when someone tells you not to do something it makes you want to do it all the more...So no matter how many times people tell you not to smoke it makes you want to try it...but then again you should be asking why people have sex when there are ever more risks...Maybe because it feels good...

They start smoking for various reasons....
staying slim
looking sexy
being one of the crowd
like the feeling that nicotine gives you.
However no matter why they start they all end up having one thing in common....after a time they're addicted.

Many reasons for any vice like smoking - in the end they are all similar in rationale: smoking, drinking, cheating, strip clubs, gambling, excessive shopping... the list goes on. All are damaging in their own way. Pick your poison...

They are stupid, thoughtless and ignorant. My own mother claims that "back then" they did not know it was bad, but if you are purposely breathing in smoke, how can that NOT be bad??
