My female started "dripping" this morning. I would leave her outside but we have dogs that wander around here and I don't want puppies, however, I have a baby in the house, and I don't want my carpet and furniture to get messed up, from her bleeding, is there anything I can put on my dog to "catch" the drips? or will she just chew it off? I don't have the money right now to get her fixed, it will get done, just can't until tax time.

you have a baby use her diapers they work. also go to your local animal shelter and they should direct you to a low and affordable spay and neuter clinic. you can not get her fixed right now not while she is in heat. however you are going to be getting a large amount of dogs hanging around dogs can smell a ***** in heat for up to three miles. when you walk her bring a stick or a spray bottle with vinegar and water mix spray the oncoming dog with it do not take your child with you when you walk this dog . dogs get very aggressive when they are around a ***** in heat. and could and will Be dangerous for a small child. there is a spray you can buy from a pet store for a few dollars that you can spray on her backside to keep the smell down. heat consist of 7 days in (her body is getting ready starting to let scent out) 7 days bleed 7 days out ( this WHEN she CAN get PREGNANT) the cycle lasts 21 days from start to finish that's why it is only every 4 months that they go into heat . they are the most fertile between the 11th thru the 14 day. when she is done with her heat have her set up to be spayed you have a young child this can not wait until tax time . i would need to know more about your living situation first to give you alternatives (apt 1st floor apt 2nd floor house yard stuff like that) a little tip dogs can and will mate thru fences and dog crates . if you do don't want a litter don't leave her unattended where other dogs can get to her... good luck

Simple Solution® Doggie Diaper Garment, which can be found at Petsmart or Petco. The prices range from $15 to around $20 (depending on the size of the dog) and are machine washable. I have personally have used these while my girls were in heat. I bought two that way I would always have a clean one when the other became dirty. I also used "human" sanitary napkins instead of the cheap "doggie" napkins. They were just easier to deal with and kept the diaper cleaner longer. Good luck!

YES

I know exactly what you are going through. I have an
unfixed female toy poodle. To cure the problem I
place diapers on her which I can obtain at the pet
shop. On occasion my dog does chew them off, but
I replace the chewed ones as soon as I notice their
condition. I need to get the money to fix my dog also,
and the time is not right for me right now, either. My
wife is in college and I am a Mr. Mom with our baby.

i feel for you, my dog just got outta her 1st heat and i just got her spayed last friday, I couldnt put up with that again. The dog will be in heat for about 3 weeks..they sell doggie pads and belts at the pet store, but most dogs just chew them off, what i had to do was just keep my dog in the kitchen, I had to buy a baby gate to keep her in there, I had to mop the floor 10 times a day, good luck, but soon as you can get her fixed then do it for your sake and for the dogs.

My cocker spaniel came in heat during a time when we really didn't have the cash to have her spayed also. I used Pull Ups Training pants and they worked great! (They are disposable, and cheaper than the doggie sanitary napkins too) Also, if you have a crate, I would recommend putting her in there at night without the pull up and while there is no one at home to watch her. It will give her a break and maybe she wont chew at it. Hope this helps!

pet stores sell a 'diaper' like contraption for breeders that fit dogs in heat. u may also need a nylon muzzle to put on the dog so she won't chew it off. the muzzle also works to break the dog of other bad habits if used properly. shouldn't cost u more than 20 bucks for both.

Doggy diapers are usually a good solution. You can get them at any pet store. Use the smaller ones so your dogs is not uncomfortable. If she chews on it...then put her in a cage for a while and take her out on a leash.

Depending on size of dog you could use an ordinary nappy or make a towel into a makeshift nappy.

This is a lot of work and the best option in the long run is to have her spayed.

We used to have a Doberman that was a show dog - here in Australia show dogs can not be desexed - what my mother did was she made a little harness thing and stuck a human pad in it and put it on our dog for when she was inside - this worked quite well and the dog never tried to remove it.
