i'm an events co-orinator at a hotel and i plan all the weddings here. to be honest the majority of hotels and wedding venues now have this, so really all the wedding planner has to do is the outside stuff (flowers, cake, cars etc etc) and i think most people like to do this themselves. Ive planned over 200 weddings in 2 years and ive only had one couple use a wedding planner for the external stuff.

i was also going to start my wedding planner business.as a way of testing the water i put my number in the yellow pages, which was free, just to see how many calls i would recieve.within the space of 6 months i got 4 calls from people looking for a wedding planner.which i thought was not bad considering i had done no advertising what so ever.i am now looking into printing some price guides and seeing what kind of response that gets me, if i get alot of interest i will then begin to build up my business properly. do somemarket research first, see what the demand is like in your area but i know that more and more people are using wedding planners all the time as the pressure to have that perfect day gets bigger every month.

Its a tricky one really and for me it would really depend on the price. My friend has recently been organising her wedding and there was so much to do and sort out, it seemed to take up every bit of spare time she had for about 6 months so I think it would be useful to have a wedding planner to organise all that for you. However, weddings are so expensive these days (ridiculously expensive) and I'm not sure I would want the added cost of a "middle man" as well!

I got married this time last year in Hong Kong, although I live in the UK, my husbands family are from Hong Kong and as we were going there on holiday it just seemed the easy option to get married out there. Oh how wrong could I be?!
It would have been really helpful to have had someone to guide me through the processes, help me with bookings, hairdressers, makeup etc. but as much as I looked I couldn't find a service that would provide those things for me or at least give me some advise. There is definately a gap in the market in this area, especially weddings in the far east.
So I would say yes give it a go I would have employed you!

I'm getting married in 18 months time and I think that it is great doing all the planning yourself. It also makes the feeling last longer otherwise you are just involved for the main day and then its gone!!!

I'm from the US, but here's what I did. It's a book, or an e-book that's called Fire Your Wedding Planner, by Stephi Stewart. I learned so many ways to save money on my wedding, it was unreal. I HIGHLY recommend it. Plus you can always sign up for her money saving newsletters. www.fireyourweddingplanner.com
Happy Wedding Planning!
