It should be a balance of both, really.

well, I don't think people should starve theirselves. Food is here for body fuel yes, but god made it taste good so it is a pleasure he gave us. But just like any other pleasure , you are not supposed to over do it. I am not a religous fanatic, but where man does not have an answer the only person left to ask is God.
And just so the young girls understand MEN , Real men do not like a bony woman. They do not like what you see in magazines and on T.V. Be happy with who you are and all will fall into place. I am 5'5" and 165lbs. and let me tell you I have had some fine-looking men my whole life, because I had confidence and I knew I was beautiful and you will project that out to the world . I 'm not sayin be a 300lbs and be unhealthy. I'm saying eat what you want and eat when your hungry and stay active. I can honestly say I have never dieted and I have never had a problem getting a man i was attracted to. It is confidence walk into a room like you own the place, don't be arrogant , just hold you head high and keep a smile on your face . I promise you will notice a difference in how people react to you. Body language is everything . I know I gave you a little more than you ask for, I hope it helps you and others who read it. Good Luck!!!!

You must eat to stay alive but if you only eat the minimum amount necessary of something you don't enjoy is that really living?
All the world's cultures have rituals around the preparation and presentation of food. Most holidays have certain foods associated with the celebration. This is an indicator of the importance of food to the social side of existence. The smells and taste of certain foods will instantly remind you of the gatherings of family or clan in your childhood. Food is a very important part of the human experience. Why would anyone deny themselves this universal joy?
If weight control is the main concern you should continue to eat all the foods you enjoy only reducing the portion size or frequency to reduce caloric intake. A balanced varied diet and increasing physical activity is the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

right smack in the middle.. there's nothing wrong with eating to enjoy, so long as you maintain a healthy weight.. and eating to survive can lead to under eating which can take just as much time off your life as overeating... a balanced diet, spread out over the day and exercise.. that's the best thing you can do. and don't overstress about how you look, focus on being healthy.. just yesterday a new study came out saying that people who were a little overweight but never developed type 2 diabetes, on average lived longer than normal weight people.. the key is to keep your body from getting diabetes.. and as long as you aren't very obese that should be pretty easy.

Both. There will be plenty of times when you eat for fuel, when the meal isn't special or you just want to stop being hungry. However, while doing that, try to get some enjoyment out of the process of eating. The trick is to make good choices so you don't waste your calories on garbage. I try to save my splurges for things I am really going to enjoy and not just on every whim I might have.

Like breathing, we also need to eat to stay alive. If you constantly were breathing in pollution or bad air your life span would be shortened because of unhealthy air, as is the same with food. You eat to stay alive and you should strive to eat healthy foods. I firmly believe the occassional Snickers doesn't hurt too bad! :-)

I think society puts alot of emphasis on being skinny, while at the same time advertising plenty of food products to confuse anyone. I would eat 3 steady meals a day, with two snacks, maybe a midnight snack but not one that retains water, or adds fat. (avoid sugars and salts), stick with vegis and fruits at that time and during normal meals as a side course.

Do what you want. Who told you that you "should" do anything? Enjoyment of food can come first. Staying alive will just be a fortunate by-product.

If you cannot enjoy life, why bother. The poet said, "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we will be with the ten thousand years." I try to tell this to the diet addicts of Atkins and South Beach diets.

Only if you are a real pig would doing both not be possible.
If you exercise moderately(2 mile runs), but regularly(5-6days per week), than what you eat matters a lot less.
