A nice God…?

All my life I’ve been hearing people saying that we are here to serve God, that God would be angry and send us to hell if we don’t follow his commands that are written in holy books, God will punish us for every little thing, we must fear God…and so on. I am so sick and tired of hearing this! God is supposed to be perfect, so that would mean God would not feel any anger or hatred. Also, God would not be selfish, so he wouldn’t just create humans to serve him, and if they failed at one little thing, he would make them burn in hell. The kind of God these people describe seems to be a very evil God, and I want to believe that God is a kind, good God, not what these religious people are saying! I just cannot accept that God is like they say.

Now, I’m not saying God should turn a blind eye to injustice. But what how do you define what is going on in the world? There are many injustices and atrocities occurring, and God does nothing about that. Instead, what these religious people tell me, is that God is concerned with normal people like you and me, who are not murderers, rapists, etc., but we just don’t follow every little command that is written in holy books, also they say if you don’t fear God or serve God he will punish you, that I can never accept! Why would God create humans just to serve him? Why? Why would he people for every little thing, or simply for just not eating kosher or praying five times a day?!

If God is perfect, then he would not have hate or anger, he would not be selfish, or vengeful either! Those are all imperfections. God is supposed to be higher than those things! If you are saying God “hates”, then it is another one of the many contradictions that are found in religions, because if God possesses these qualities, then it makes him not perfect…and these same religions say he is perfect and higher.

"Defy God and go to hell"...another contradiction because if God has such rigid stringent rules, then that makes him selfish, a huge imperfection, being a higher power, means he can't be like that!

Now you are saying God is jealous. That is another huge imperfection, that a perfect God cannot have! See how what you are saying doesn't make any sense!

2006-09-26 04:12:33 · update #4

he same time, contradict yourselves! If he created us and the universe only to serve him, then he would be playing some game, and being selfish, in other words, he would possess imperfect and bad qualities, which a divine higher power, a deity cannot possess since he is perfect and pure. Once again, you religionists are saying things that do not any make sense...which proves the fallibility of organized religion!

God doesn't have any negative characteristics-these are products of human free will. The God of the religionists doesn't come within a million miles of measuring up to the reality of the divine. The majority of people you have been listening to are actually further away from God than most atheists.

I am following what you're saying and it's good reasoning. However, think of it this way. If there was a kingdom on earth and it had a ruler who let everything slide there would be ABSOLUTE CHAOS! Have you ever read Lord of the Flies and what happened to the kids ruling among themselves? Everyone went nutty and looney and killed off each other. If there was no jails in the world, would it be better or worse? Without that good old time out then there would be people killing people and no one would blink an eye in disapproval. It is the same with God. Perfection doesn't mean that you don't disapprove of something. IF anything, it should make you so wise that you would actually SEE more things that aren't right. People get mad when God punishes and then they forget all the great things that God did to a person before he got to that point. Just like a parent does great things for their child before they finally have to sit them on time out. Don't be deceived. God loves us all, but that doesn't mean there will be no discipline.

What you are expressing are interpretations by humans who are trying to lead you to God. No one can klead you to God. You have to find your own way to God so that you will not just believe, you will know, and your strength will not falter when you need it.

God is a kind, good spirit that only accepts kind, good spirits when they are offered to It. It feels no anger or hatred. We are and everything else is of God. You serve God by living a good life. God is not concerned with the physical but some physical pain harms the spirit. You serve God by living a good life and not harming anyone or anything spiritually. God does not care what bad things you may have done. God is only concerned about the nature of your spirit at the tiome it is offered to him.

Live life the best way you can and open your mind to all knowledge. God will find you.

I can sympathize, but you have to go by what God says about Himself. As I understand it, God only gets angry with sins because they destroy people. He loves ALL people, and wants them all in Heaven, but Justice demands that only perfect people be allowed in His Presence. And no one is perfect. Which is why He did the whole Salvation thing, to provide a way for people to take on perfection. But they have to actually choose to do so, or God could be accused of rape. (unwanted love) The only service God asks of us is that we help others find the path to Perfection, so that they can also go to Heaven. This, too, is done out of love, so that we can have something positive to contribute to the Grand Scheme of Things. Hell is simply the result of realizing what a big, stupid mistake you made. Think of burning shame. It's NOT God's fault!

God is your father and like any good father sometimes he must punish you when you do something wrong in order for you to learn from it. The other thing about being a good father is the patients to take you back into his heart time after time when you do things wrong. He has forgiveness and is willing to give you another try. Also God cannot give you everything you desire. He did that with Lucifer and look how that turned out. Nor can he make your choices for you if he did how would you learn anything from your mistakes? I too believe he is a kind, good God and i love him for that.

I argue that same point every day. Christians tell me that god has not one drop of evil and is perfectly good in every way, and then I read this:

Exodus 11:5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
11:6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
11:7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

Well, I used to be really confused about this, why if God loves us so much would he send us to Hell to be tortured beyond our imagination.
Why if God loves us so much would he make our lives miserable, illness, children dying, money problems, war, crime, children being brought up in abusive homes....etc.
Now, through the help of Christian friends and a wonderful Pastor, I have realized that God is our Father. Do we punish our children when they do wrong? Of course.
In The Bible we are told that there is a narrow path to God and it is the ONLY way to Him. Our options are laid out for us pretty plainly, we choose Heaven or Hell ourselves.
I started "searching" for my "personal relationship" with God when I was really young, about 14 or so. I did not feel like I have developed that with Him until a few years ago and I am 37 now.
Restoration and salvation are not easily attained, you must work for it and develop YOUR relationship, the one YOU are intended to have with God, not the same as mine or anyone elses.
The Lord puts the burdens in our life that we need. We are faced with difficulty, heartbreak, anger, disappointment, fear, worry, loss, illness and persecution as Christians, devout or searching, does not matter. He does this in order to bring us closer to Him. He wants to have a relationship with His children.
Even the most vile sinner can be cleansed in Jesus Christs name, think of it, and all the Lord wants from us is Love and Conversation, in a basic sense.
God tells us He is a jealous God. He is not selfish. God is perfect, he does not make anyone burn in Hell, some of us choose that option, defy God and go to Hell, that is the way it is, it is like we have been taught a NARROW path to God and it is THE ONLY way.
I am a Christian, I have a passionate heart for sharing my experiences as a searching Christian to a devout Christian. Am I perfect? NO!!!!! I cuss, gossip, smoke, sometimes drink, I am jealous, selfish, non-appreciative of how good I have it compared to others sometimes, I am not in any way anything other than a wicked sinner BUT I have found MY personal relationship with God and have accepted Jesus Christ as MY saviour and have not a cookie cutter salvation but found MY salvation through Christianity.
I hope this helps, I feel like I rambled on.

In other words you want to live your life just as you want and not have some god telling you what to do and not to do and then at the end of it all have a nice happy eternity in heaven because god is just such a nice guy. If eternal life is imporant to you, then why don't you just do what God says to do instead of trying to find ways around it.

If you got to know Him for yourself, then you wouldn't have to depend on what other people are telling you. When you have a relationship with Him, He gives you insight to who He is. God made man and this world. Look what they've done to it and with it. If I were Him, I'd be sick and tired of it too. God is all powerful, all knowing, but he's also a God of wrath.

I believe God is good. People are sometimes bad. The bible says that we are made in his likeness. God is in each one of us. If you are sorry for things you have done and ask for forgiveness, I believe God forgives. I've done plenty of bad things, sometimes talked about other people, gossip...and at the end of the day....I usually am sorry for getting in the "mickey mouse" act, and ask for forgiveness and pray that I can be a better person. I don't believe I'm going to hell for the bad things I've done, though.
