I NEVER trust controversial questions asked by a person who feels they have to open a new identity just to ask it.

Sorry, you'll get no feedback from me.

Its a parents responsibility to bring up children to be useful and productive members of the society and culture they live in. Its a parents responsibility to lead by example, discipline by guidance and hold accountable both themselves and their child. .

You are asking two different questions, why do some parent belittle their children and why do expect their kids to follow their standards.

Parents who belittle their children are out of control and have no business being parents. Name calling isn't productive and in many cases its abuse. However, confronting children with lying and expecting them to be truthful is simply expecting the children to live up to the standards set by the parents and there isn't a thing wrong with holding them accountable.

People will not be happy just letting kids be kids. There is a time and a place for that, but getting away with lying to a parent is not "just letting kids be kids".

Verbal abuse can lead to many different things such as low self esteem, suicidal thoughts and poor coping skills. If you cannot talk to the parent involved, then talk to someone they trust, or will listen to like a school teacher/counselor/ minister. Sometimes though, there is just nothing you can do but be a friend to the child, if that is appropriate.

Some parents go by what they know. If they had a non-supportive parent growing up and if they don't have no desire to change, then more than likely they will be unsupportive parents to their children. Parents AREN'T perfect and they need to let their children know that they are not perfect. I allow to my children to see my mistakes. If i'm wrong, I have no problem apologizing to them. I love them and i will support them in all of their dreams but the only thing I expect of them is to do something positive and that will benefit them and their future.
