The gaseous effect of beans can be easily alleviated by rinsing the beans well. Assuming you are using dried beans, soak them overnight in water as usual. Now rinse them in fresh water thoroughly, removing any debris you might find at the same time. I suggest a third rinse to be absolutely sure.
The only time I have seen poor results is when someone attempted to use a colander instead of rinsing in the pot.
This method is a bit tedious, but I can assure you that it works very well.

I always soak overnight, but you don't want to ever salt beans until right before you serve because it can make them tough, but do drain off the soaking liquid and add new water. Also my mom swears by pouring a half a can of coke during cooking, it seems to work really well and you can't taste the coke..

Soak the bean for a few hours or overnight. Pour off the water and rinse.

I bring to boil in unsalted water with a tablespoon of baking soda and let soak overnight. I then rinse the beans in fresh water with a colander and rinse the pot.

Sadly I'm prone to gas... and thankfully, this works each time.

Soak them in salted water overnight and when you cook them (this is the real trick) add a teaspoon of vinager and a teaspoon of sugar. The vinager knocks out the gas, the sugar removes the taste of vinegar. Good luck. By the way - when's dinner!

eat them upside down. Then you burp instead of other.

Seriously, soak them overnight in salt water. It won't alleviate all the symptoms but some.

I agree with the overnight soak.
But PLEASE don't use salted water! It makes beans tough.
