does anybody get stomach pain and bloating when you drink diet soda? Doesn't matter w/ or w/out caffeine. I've heard something about aspartame being a problem for some people in sugar-free dessert foods, but I'd never noticed a problem before recently. Gas goes along with the pains, but not like burping from the carbonation....just a distended gas pain in the belly.

Soda in general is bad for the digestive system as it kills off some very much need stomach Flora which aide in digestion. When lack of digestive fluids slow down the process foods remain in the system for longer periods of time resulting in several maladies one of which is bloating and pain from gas. You may be experiencing a colonic blockage but that is speculative and this is not the place for medical diagnosis or advice. You need to see a gastrointestinal doctor.

Dude...Don't drink Pop..It's just bad for you anyway. Stick with water and juices all the things that are natural.
I have never been able to drink "diet" anything....I don't care if it's Pepsi, coke, mt dew.....it's all the same.

I don't think that the stomach pains come from that however, you may be due for a routine check up. Always good to bench mark your health - even when your healthy to have something to compare it to when something does happen. Just so you know where your levels were the year before or whatever.
bottoms up - Here's to your health.

most people get this even with regular soda and it's mostly from the carbonation as the gas build ups in your intenstines,Gasex or any gas relief aid from the store should help, along with switching off from soda once in a while, you don't always burp it up sometimes it comes out the other way and sometimes ti don't and a gas relief aid helps at those times gazex now comes out in tin strips givr it a try.

I get this too, it can cause impaction and gas cramping in some people. My doctor said that the caffine actually makes it worse in diet sodas, and you are right, it is the aspertame that is causing it. I haven't had the issue with diet sodas sweetened with Splenda. Try that out.

certainly checking what you eat to see if a pattern is developing with the stomach issue is good. Aspartame causes headaches, migraines... it could be just the carbonation, but don't rule out food allergies.
