Unless you have been to medical school, DO NOT interfere wtih your son's medical treatment. That is crossing the line, however well-intentioned it might be. Find another doctor for your son if he is young enough that this would be your responsibility.

If you come off valium its best to do it under a doctor, not on your own. You have to reduce the dose very, very gradually; never just stop, not even by missing one tablet.
How you reduce the dose depends on the size of each dose, and how many doses you take each day. Your son really needs a sympathetic gp. That way, they can prescribe a slightly smaller tablet.
Please change your sons gp and get him proper help with this. The side effects of just stopping are awful.
Your son may also need some kind of medication other than valium, fluanxol or similar may be better. Another gp might help him make the switch.
Best of luck to you both.

Get a new doctor. He'll have to slowly reduce the amount of valium he takes. It's probably bets if he does this in a rehab clinic. Valium addiction and withdrawl is very dangerous and can cause severe complications. Your son should not quit "cold turkey" or without the supervision of a medical professional.

Firstly, you need to change Doctor's. I am currently on a valium withdrawal programme ( doc prescribed it originally for bi-polar ). I am withdrawing by 1mg per week. So far I have not experienced any withdrawal effects. It may take up to one year, but it sure beats being addicted to the stuff. It is evil. Good luck.

Good question, but you have to cut down very gradually because any sudden stoppage can lead to terrifying consequences. Depending on how much the dosage is, you would be best to work it out by going down half a tablet at a time but each half over three to six weeks.

Spiritually speaking, I know of people whose addiction has been healed quite quickly. Through putting there trust in Jesus Christ and there are many good Christian's who are gifted in healing. The Holy Spirit can work wonders in a person's life, but you just have to give God the chance to do so. Also if your doctor is of no help, get better professional help. Hope all goes well and God Bless You.

Giving a child Valium is unnecessary and wrong. Just go to another doctor-you don't owe the current one any explanation.
But the next doctor may ask you to sign a release in order to get the medical records of you son from the other doctor. That shouldn't be a problem.

Run don't walk to another doc!
Valium needs medical supervision for proper withdrawal...
fastest easiest way would be to take to an ER......
I cannot emphasize how much the withdrawal needs supervision....barbiturate withdrawal is serious and has serious physical side effect that need attention....do not abruptly stop his meds!!! could be very dangerous.
At the very least call poison control and see if they can refer you to a reputable Doc who can help....

I, personally withdraw from valium by means of overdose, be careful though, when I awake everything seems different and life has a new meaning, a human induced by V. can be very persuadable, know what your son wants, talk about it with him (subliminal) and have him write a diary of what he feels he wants his passions, goals diary entry addressed to non valium self. Otherwise cut down a few mg a week until he is off it (however people who use valium see it as their method of survival and as a crutch so I would try and be tricky by getting placebo meds (sugar pills) that look like V. so he does not have to face anxiety created through self not through withdrawel. If you like tell him to email me knardi20@yahoo.com.au or ring me 0415511651 when he needs to escape, I know what it is like - and love to help. Herbal remedies- St Johns Wart vitamins or tea please let me know how he goes for I worry about others like me. Peace out

Leave it to the professionals and take him to a rehab clinic. THere are alot of things that could go wrong when trying to wein him off at home. He could go into shock( extreme case) he could become violent and it would alter his personality and he could go into convulsions also. Plus at a rehab clinic depending on how severe his case is they can make it easier for him to withdrawl by supplying him with enough fluids and such.

Then I would send the other doc who perscribed the meds to him in the first place the BILL!!!!
