It depends on whether you told the truth about your weight or just put in the number you hope to be someday when you did the setup. With the correct number it is close enough for its intended purpose which is to give you an idea of the impact of exercise on your body.

It is an best estimate based on the information given.

Variables such as Age, Height, Gender, Weight, Fitness level and metabilsm - all play a part. Some of these variables can be entered on the machine to help provide a more accurate reading.

No, they are not entirely accurate. Your speed, resistance and weight are not the only things that determine how many calories you burn. Your age, height, gender and genetics also play a huge role along with your body's metobilsm - all which a machine can't measure. It will give you a general idea, but not 100% accuracy.

YEs if you enter your body weight in correctly it should be pretty damn close. Also a good machine will have to metal areas for you to place your hands on and it takes your heartrate periodically and that also is factored into your total calories burned. Also this is good b/c you want to stay in your target heart rate zone assigned for either cardio or fat buring anything above or below the designated herat rate zone is too much working or not enough. But if you stay in that zone the workout will be most effective.
