It depends on how fast you are running or swimming, and sometimes which swimming stroke you are using. The link below give calories burned with various exercises and also takes your weight into account.

Running.
My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Running is the winner...you burn more calories with an intense run for 1 hour than you do with an intense swim.
Swimming, however, is a GREAT way to lose calories, tone your muscles, and lose inches. And it is easier on your body than running!
Everything depends on how long, what intensity, how far...you have to be consistent and do ANYTHING to get your heart rate up and tell your body your serious about burning the calories!

Both can burn a high number of calories. It all depends on how long and how intense you are doing any activity. My guess would be swimming though because you are using your entire body with continous resistance against the water.

I would say that it depends on how long each exorcise is done there are different levels of training or exorcise and different body types as well as there are different levels of fitness. But to answer the question directly l would say that swimming is the best exorcise and here is the reason why, you can do different types of exorcise in water and you can start at any level of fitness and it is easier to modify while you are doing your work out. if you really want to loose weight then l would ask a professional on what is a good starting work-out for you and your body type. and if need be come to TX and l will help give you a good work out. ;)

It depends on the level of intensity. Swimming will burn more fat, running will burn more carbs and jogging in in the middle. When everything is working right, your body will tend to use fat, then carbs, then protein. When you goose you system, it will but more carbs, since they are right there.
