is there usually someone who's expected to plan the reception? (i.e. Best man, Maid of Honor, etc.)

I'd hate to steal responsibilities from someone just because I didn't know it was for them...

The bride usually plans the wedding reception herself with support from the people close to her including her mother, sisters, and bridesmaids. Those people should be there to help. It isn't their responsibility to take on the gigantic task of planning the reception.

The hosts of the wedding plan the reception. The couple or their parents are usually the hosts.

The reception is all yours! You plan it, you pay for it (unless you have family that has offered to pay such as your parents or your fiance's parents). You plan everything from soup to nuts! The wedding party takes part in planning the shower and the bachelor/bachelorette parties. They don't plan the wedding itself.

You could hire some one but the brides parents and family are supposed to take care of it! In a traditional wedding!

Typically you and your mother would plan the reception. If you needed extra help and you wanted your bridesmaids to help you could always ask for help and I'm sure they would love to help you out. Don't foget to ask your fiance about his opinions just in case. My fiance wanted to help with everything!!

The bride & the Mother of the Bride. The groom can help too if he wants. But truly whoever is paying!
