I have the beginnings of a stratchy throat and stuffy ears...several of my co-workers have bad colds already and I'm worried I might be getting it as well. I'm in a wedding on Saturday and I need to be healthy!! Any tips on keeping this sickness away?

Medicine can and does mask the symptoms, but it also can suppress your immune system. Go to your local Health Food Store, purchase a blend of Echinacea, Golden seal. Take more than what is suggested. It will not hurt you. You need to flood this infection/virus. Also 500 to 1000mg Vit C every hour. This again, won't hurt you. If you get diarrhea, slow your dosage down.
Avoid sugar, dairy, and highly processed food.
Rest, and don't stress.

Good Luck

You must ride it out. Only get antibiotics if the cold gets severe, otherwise, you body does not learn to fight the germs and you get worse over the years. You can medicate to relieve symtoms.

take vitamins, lots of rest, minimize stress, laughter (most miss this step, it really works) lots of sanitizing. And lastly, a loving mate that will baby you till you get better, he he he he.

Drugs
chest congested - guafinsin (humibid, musinex and the like)
head congested - decongestant
for cold occuring in spring and fall - antihistamine (means no work or driving)
head pain - tylonol
sinus headache - ibuprofen (reduces membrane swelling)

you can take tylonol and ibuprofen together or tylonol oand asperine
asperine and ibuprofine counter act each other.

many suggest with bad sinus headache to take ibuprofen, then tylonol 3 hours later and the switch back and forth

Get lots of sleep and drink plenty of water. Also, stay away from the caffeine since it has been shown to suppress your immune system. Avoid dairy and sugar since both of those can contribute to phlegm build up. You might also take some echinecea to boost your immune system, though this is usually better preventatively than treatment wise. Wipe down your phones, keyboards, etc. with disinfectant. Wash your hands frequently. Change your sheets so you're not breathing in germs you may have already breathed on them. Good health and good luck!

Zycam up the nose. I'm 35 and a mother of 2, and I have never found a product that works better at reducing the duration of a cold. Within a day or two, it's gone. Seriously. Try it.

They sell Zinc Lozenges at the pharmacy...they're supposed to help shorten the life of a cold...
Other than that, take your vitamin C, lots of liquids, and plenty of rest. Some fitness experts say that if the symptoms are only from the neck up, go ahead and exercise - it may help. But if you have a cough, chills, fever....stay in bed.
Echinacea, garlic , zinc and vitamins...plenty of rest. Wash your hands a lot, and try and keep em away from your face - regardless (it's how most of us get sick in the first place).
Best of luck. There's always DayQuil if you get sick.

I bought tylenol cold complete nighttime for my son. He had similar symptoms, and within a couple of days he was ok. You can also use Nightquil (so you can sleep better) or dayquil. Drink plenty of fluids.
