My house is low on space. I have an OLD glider that was my mom's in the office which is next to the nursery. Since i'll be converting my guest room to the nursery...i'm low on bed space for our family that all live out of state and visit often. I was thinking of putting a single chair "sleeper" into the nursery instead of the glider and rock the baby in the other room. Do you think it will work or be a headache in the end?

Personally my daughter hated to be rocked in the glider rocker. She enjoyed the rocking recliner better so now we have a gently used glider sitting in her nursery just taking up space. Every baby is different maybe you should just use what works best for you because when the baby is born he/she wont know any better unless you use the glider first and then switch that could cause a problem because the baby may prefer the glider. :)

It depends. If your baby is a sound sleeper you may be able to rock her to sleep and walk her to her crib without waking her. If you have a light sleeper on your hands, the closer the rocker is to the crib and the quieter the room the better.

I'm a big fan of glider rockers being included in the furnishings of any nursery because of the quiet times together that may be enjoyed by the mother and child.

I have never purchased a rocker or glider, but my husband tries out the gliders every time we go to the furniture store!

They look so comfy, but I spend very little time sitting in the nursery with my daughter. We always are in the living room. I personally have never rocked my baby to sleep. She always just slept in my arms with no help if she really wanted to sleep, but they sure are soothing for mom & dad....

I had a normal chair in my bedroom, just for breast feeding in the middle of the night, but got rid of it once I stopped nursing.

A normal chair is fine, as long as it is comfy for you. If you don't like sitting in it, you will never do it, and the chair will only take up space.

Dont stress it. A glider or rocker is totally not necessary. Your house will be full of baby equipment anyway so for logical reasons, get the single chair sleeper and that will seem to work for you.

Best of luck!

I don't think it should be an issue. It might not even be anything you will have to worry about because your baby may not even care about being rocked. My baby didn't. We rarely used our rocker. Looking back I think we got off easy because I hear about other mothers that have 2 year olds that still HAVE to be rocked to sleep because that is what they've always done. I just thank my lucky stars that my daughter was content to be rocked or not and never developed a need for any one method.

I didn't use a glider/rocker with either of my two babies. Rocking them on the couch or bed was just as good, and it's a good way to get your stomach muscles back! Good luck and rock on! Take care.

My mom bought one for us after the birth of our first son, and I rarely used it. Both my boys were good sleepers and never had to be rocked. My kids are 2 1/2 years and 14 month old now, and I can count the number of times I used it to rock them on one hand. Mainly it just sits there and collects dust now.

We offered one previously my son grow to be born. It say I used it possibly a million-2x, possibly. in my opinion we wasted the money. I did the same undertaking my son stayed in his bassinet till he grow to be approximately 4 months in our room then we movevd his crib to our room. Hes almost 8 months now. And the glider is sitting out interior the shed. I stayed interior the front room the main, and once I rocked my son I rocked on the settee. He appeared to love that better.

I would ditch the glider and get a smaller rocking chair that can be used as "real" furniture later.
