It's kind of like saying someone is a European citizen of France. Any citizen of the USA is an American.

Because its redundant. Its common sense that when you say someone is an "American", it automatically means the person is a citizen of the USA. If you spread that out even further, its like saying he's an American citizen of the United States of America. The noun before the word "citizen" already connotes the country of birth or country a person migrated to and became a citizen of that country.

It should not be considered politically incorrect to be an American citizen of the USA but we´re constantly being told that it´s wrong. What are we supposed to call ourselves, Unitedstatesians? For example, no one in Europe prefers to be called European over French or British. Sure, everyone who lives on this continent has a right to call themselves American, but that doesn´t take away our right to do so.

Why said it was? Most people in the country, if you ask them, will describe them selves as an American citizen. That's just the common expression. My girlfriend is from Venezuela. She doesn't describe her self as American. She's Venezuelan. The same would be true of Canadians, Mexicans, Peruvians, etc. Even people from other countries refer to people who live in the united states as Americans.

Well then ,I shall always be incorrect.
I am a patriotic, flag waving ,love my country, will fight for it,native born ,"bonnified", American and no one will ever make me ashamed of that fact. Its simply futile to try to make me feel any different.Do I support our president ,no ,but I do respect and support this country.
and what it really stands for.Although it does seem that politicians are trying to push legal Americans to the back of the bus.But we will become just like Rosa Parks, and demand our rightful place.
