When these young men and women who risked life and limb in a war the save the world against tyrants, what will you do? Will you continue to tell them that the war was uneccesary and that their personal sacrifices of time, life, and family were all in vain or will you help the veterans of OEF and OIF settle back in society and cope with the demons of the sights they have seen and lived over there. Many say they support the troops but not the war but I believe they must go hand in hand, otherwise you are just fooling yourself and belittling our troops efforts and sacrifices. When the war is over what will you do?? Will you stare the man that lost arm and a family in the face and say "i supported you but the war you fought was senseless''.... Is that true support?

Many of our troops over there DO believe that the war is justified and they DO believe that their efforts are making a difference to better the lives of civilians. I have spoken to many miliatry that say that feel very fulfilled at what they do over there. Its not all about killing, raping, and pillaging people...alot of good is being done over there. Its just sad that CNN does not think its important enough to show on TV. We are being poisoned by the media...I dont think we should pass judgement on the war if we havent spent any time over there. Always remember we only know what the media chooses to show us over here...

"Tom", Ive learned about that, Sir and believe me that is what I fear the most. I dont want today's soldiers to go through what you and your comrads had too go through. I guess we dont learn from our past.

"SSLPATT" WROTE: They all ready know this war is pointless. More than we do. Do we sit with our heads in the sand and never learn from our experiences? Are we ever going to finish this war? Or is the greed for oil going to lead us on to more and more war? Support the troops bring them home. Nobody should die to keep oil at $40.00 a barrel.
That is very very untrue, you couldn't be more wrong. Those men out there, including me, beleive in what they are doing. They feel proud because they feel they are making a difference in the world and they are protecting all of us here in the U.S. More people are joining and the reason they join is because they beleive they are fighting for a damn good reason. The Army had it's "best recruiting year since 1997".

Now answer me this, if they really think they are fighting for no reason like you say, then why do they keep re-enlisting and why are more and more recruits joining?
Don't talk if u don't know nothing, we all join for a reason, and that reason is to fight for your @ss. To fight for the United States of America, and we do it with HONOR.
You should Thank God there is people Brave enough to do something about it instead of talking shhit and not do a god damn thing about it. For example..YOU!

(1) I have seen media reports of the "other" side of Iraq and Afghanistan - the reconstruction, the return to normalcy. Print media is far more extensive and broad in its coverage as well. The Fourth Estate is not "poison". It is the mind which dwells in ignorance and refuses to seek sources that is poisoned.
(2) You do not have to be over there to understand, though if you aren't there, you won't understand absolutely everything as the visceral experience will be lacking from your observations.
(3) I really don't care what the public says. The Constitution guarantees free speech. Those in the military swore to uphold and defend the Constitution. There is no two ways about it. If a member of the public feels the war was uncalled for, they have every right to express it even to the troops. What I've had said to me is a damn sight better than what those in my family who served in Vietnam went through.
(4) Most troops are soft-skilled MOS admin and tech support types whose discomfort level is negligible. We're going to see a good number of wannabes and fake Purple Heart draggers emerge over the years, claiming veteran status, and even some veterans claiming things they haven't seen or done. If all the vets who claimed a kill in Iraq or Afghanistan had their totals tallied, the world would be short perhaps 2, 3 billion people today.
(5) The unbridled adultation some people seem to want to levy towards the troops both enables the scumbags in the ranks to bask in praise along with the heroes, and ignores the deeper consequences of what happens to the nation when its military is sent overseas. Treat the veterans all like PTSD cases who stepped out of an inferno, and you belittle them as all unable to cope and in need of help.
(6) Besides, if this War on Terror was such a matter of life and death, why are troops not staying for 20 years? Why are more people not volunteering? We had 6 million serve under arms in the Second World War. We turned away 5 million people. Today, the entire American military is less than 1/10th of that size. Second World War vets stayed for the duration of the war, or until they became casualties. Nowadays you have people doing two year terms and maybe not even being deployed getting out. What gives?
So how many people are really risking life and limb, and how many are in it for the college money, the easy paycheck, the quick citizenship, and the free ride? Come on now. Those questions need to be asked, rather than being smothered in mindless "love for the troops". Wave the flag by all means, just don't knock yourself out with it.

Supporting the troops (people) is a lot different from supporting the war (campaign). Here's why: the soldiers are not responsible for making the decisions about where and when to fight. The military uses a chain of command in that everyone has to follow the orders of the person higher up in the chain. This absolves people at the bottom of the chain of any responsibility for top-level decisions about when/where to go to war. It is not at all belittling to honor our troops when it is not they, but the top levels of government who have not only failed the civilians, but the military itself, too. I will look at the man who lost his arm and say "This country and my tax dollars will take care of you. And I will do my best to keep people out of government who would lead us into wars that don't have to happen so that what has happened to you will not happen to others unnecessarily."

Yes, I will always support the brave service men and women, I might not agree with the war but they have my full support....My husband has been to Iraq and he's there now this is his 4th go around and I'm sure it bothers him alot to have seen some of the things you couldn't imagine... I would be extremely happy just to have him home for more then 5 months a year.. It's hard on everyone involved. But thats his duty and he does it proud, I never once heard him complain about doing his job for all American's.....Pray for all the service men an women to return to us safe and with sound mines...

I served 43 years ago (guess where that could have been), and believe me this generation of solders has no idea of what it feels like to be scorned when they return home, and I hope and pray that they never do.

The world's worst terrorist is in the White House.
I will place the blame for their illnesses & sufferings right where it lies: upon Bush, the Neo-Con Artists, and people like you who enable the Neo-Con Artist gangsters.
