for the wedding reception

We did two meats: Chicken and roast beef. The chicken is always a good bet and beef. Then we did two sides: we choose mashed potatoes (everybodies favorite) and baked fruit (a really big hit, we had like none left over) then we had a salad ( we did a mandarian orange so that the dressing was already applied on there, a big hit) then at the beginning while we were doing pictures we had cheese and crackers. I like doing buffet style personally because you get to dish up the amount and what you want. Not everybody is going to like your salad, or your fruit. Let them decide!!

Congratulations on your wedding!

If you are doing a dinner, keep in mind the requirements for a large group of people with diverse eating habits. Salads and vegetables, two meats or a meat and fish, a vegetarian dish that everyone will eat like a meatless pasta dish and a variety of breads. Remember that people are wearing their best clothes usually and don't serve anything that will stain the brides dress.

We did rosemary pork loin and fried chicken as both were a specialty of the caterer we used and well known. We served a pasta con broccoli with no meat for our vegetarian friends.

A safe bet would be a salad with 2-3 dressings and rolls for all the tables.
Then I would do a chicken dish like a chicken marsala its easy and shouldnt cost much to make and then you could also have on the plate a red meat of some sort like sliced beef with gravy or meatloaf. That way the chicken people are happy and the beef people are happy. THen for veggies maybe consider mashed potatoes cause they are cheap to supply and they are filling and either broccoli or string beans.

Your food selection will be in accordance with the time of the ceremony and which meal you are closest to. For example, my ceremony starts at 7am so my reception is going to feature breakfast dishes like eggs, pancakes and the like. But you can always mix it up if you want something different.

I think the bride and groom should make the meal a personal thing, serving their favorite foods. However, it should be balanced so if say you aren't big on vegetables, it would still be a good idea to have a veggie tray or a salad offered. If you are having it catered, your caterer can help you with meal planning so that you have a complete complimentary meal. Good luck and congrats to the bride and groom.

My mom had KFC catered *lol* Good food but wouldn't suggest it for a wedding reception if I had to do it over again. Lots of resteraunts do cater. Sloppy joes, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers if you're going to make them yourself always are good for big crowds.

Is this a sit-down dinner, buffet or back yard BBQ?
What time of day is the wedding? Cocktail hour? What you would serve for brunch is different than what you would serve at 7pm.
