Okey doke, first thing i notice is your rather pungent subject is an "IT man", if man is in fact the correct terminology for such a creature. As you may know IT people are not like you and I, they are grown in test tubes deep in the caves of the mendip hills in Somerset. When they reach maturity a lorry arrives in the middle of the night and whisks them away to their programmed destinations. Whilst in transit their entire knowledge is uploaded into their brains through an ipod style device.
Included in this info are of course gems like "how to really annoy busy people", and "reasons why I cant do anything for you" and the crucial "its simple all u had to do was reboot". Whilst this knowledge is of course imperative to there existence the great programmer in the sky neglected to add "how to stop your self smelling like a marathon runners shorts in 3 easy steps".
Taking your question as a whole though it is difficult to tell someone, even IT people, that they smell. I think the best solution is to make your office smell really bad then ask him to come and fix your keyboard because gemma cod danced on it. When he arrives and asks why the place reeks say you wanted him to feel at home lol. Omg that was cruel! Ive turned cruel! what has this site done to me? I'm going to go away and cry now.
Just to add to me answer - today i find my self with a very slight aroma. I know, I know that may shock and disgust many of you but I felt i had to confess after being so rude about MR IT man. In my defense though I have noticed and fumigated me self acordingly. I think now speaking from experiance I would say that if some one had told me I would have liked it to have been my best m8, a vicar or maybe the captain of a cruise ship.

Perhaps have an air fresh spray close to hand. Give it a squirt whenever he is near, he just may take the hint. Or club together and buy him some deodorant for Birhtday/Christmas :¬) as long as it gets rid of the smell.
Failing that, go to the human resource department and make a formal complaint.

I work in a shop and its amazing how many of the customers stink, I have often wondered why their family/friends dont tell them, if I stank, I would want to know.
The only way to cure him is to bite the bullet and tell him he stinks, although its not a job that I would relish! Good luck!

For some people it really is a medical condition. If its arm pit odour I heard they do botox injections now which stop the sweat. About the IT guy you cant say anything unless you know him personally. It would just be rude and hurtful.

yes but in a tactful manner . some people are oblivious to their well being ; it may be in upbringing ; or just genuine ignorance .
i knew a bloke who wore a jumper ( pretty well the same one ) through all the seasons , and of course he was on the nose , but the irony was , that he probably wasn't aware of it .
as i said be tactful how you approach this issue ; but you sure have a right to say something --- you could (with tongue in cheek say) have you been lunching with ducks in the duck pond coz you are on the nose ducky . ( no offence to duck lovers )

Yes, you can. But it should be done politely. Politely ask him or tell him, "it seems your cream smells like ......... (funny smell) he/ she will respond. Then "why not change that cream? it has a funny odour on you" this time, you have made him to understand the funny smell on him. This will make him find solution to it. And it is possible that he/she do not have enough time to scrub his body (close areas of the body - arm-pit, as.....) very well when having his/her bath.
Some people have smells from their mouth whenever they talk. So please find out and help him or her.

I knew this woman and her husband who moved in with me for five months, I had to hold my nose everytime I was around them. I would mention I was taking a shower to hint that they smelled. he did take some showers in the five months because he got the hint but he still smelled and she was very heavy and should of showered everday and I think in the five and half months she lived with me and my kids she showered maybe five times, so you can say she showered once a month. she smelled so bad. how can you not smell yourself, yuck
