It is possible....very slight possibility and that as a couple of others have pointed out will be difficult and expensive. Although from my reading a drug charge has a higher potential to be expunged then murder, armed robbery, rape...well you get the picture.
Obviously you would want to research which law firm or attorney specializes in this area, or at least has had success in expunging felony records.
The drug felony facts will be important...was is possession with intent to sell, to distribute. The quantity involved and the type of drug. Marijuana vs.cocaine or Ecstasy and the like. Was there a weapon involved and was anyone injured during the commission of the crime.
I am a father of a 21 year son and am grateful every day that he hasn't been involved with drugs. Of course...a parent never really knows everything. He his completing his 2 year church mission so I am confident he hasn't been near any drug temptation.
I wish you and your son the best of luck in your efforts.
PS PUDDIN... where did you obtain your information that yep...if it is the first time. Does that apply to a person who murdered a family of 5 and fled across state lines?

it is extremely etremely dificult to expunge a felony convictionn on ones record uless there is a ton and we mean a ton of evidence that he either was set up or framed or somebody comes forward with high high moral charecter, and going bak in time five years laterr is goona be another nightmare hons hate too tel you this, but its just the way life is, we preach preach too people if you want that betterr better chance in life dont drag around a felony--- its one of the most diffucult points in, life - yes some people hang around the wrong crowds,, get caught up in the systems-- we know but unless you got something in about 5 feet of concrete, too pull him out of this felony and its frustrating we know, no llawyer will probably ever go near this and dont let anyone fool, you its very veery expensive too get them to pull it, he was convictedd, and you must move on downe that lonesome highway of life and forget it hons, what is done is done/

if it happened when he was a minor, the record will be sealed when he is 18,
as an adult, he would have to get a lawyer and go to the district attorney and convince him to expunge it ... depending on the circumstances of the crime and related actions, he may or may not expunge it
if he is still on parole, no way
