Forget about Muhammad and any Muslim with 2,3,4 wives. That's their problem.
For those of us that are or have been married....one is more than enough; good times and bad. I darn say most women wouldn't want more than one husband. Marriage is a fine and difficult balance between the needs of 2 people let alone up to 5 people.
And imagine the expense to maintain and take care of 5 wives if they each had 2 or 3 children and didn't work outside the home? Forget about child care.....massive capital out lay. Of course if you had some of those oil wells in the middle-east things might be different......
Besides, during my time in the middle-east most of the Muslim men I knew had only one wife and occasionally contracted for an additional wife on a short time basis. Don't ask...long story to explain.

CORRECTION
The Holy Prophet of Islam had 9 wives. The command of being permitted to marry only four was given after Hijra - this command came after the Holly Prophets 9 marriages.
In many countries it is a custom for people to get married when they are young but it is not meant that they are actually married. It is a bond that is formed between two people which is not fully established until the two are fully mature.
In this case it was Hadhrat Aisha who was promised her hand in marriage to the Holly Prophet when she matured - which is how it happened.
Anything else that you object to? Is there anything else that you want cleared up? Are you to believe the slander that Islam gets from uneducated and mischievous people bent on taking you away from the truth?
Islam is the fastest growing Religion on this planet - people are converting without any force (which is as its always has been) - are these people reading the same stuff as you! I don't think so!

Most of Mohammad's wives were widows who had no sons to care of them. In that time, widows were considered outcasts, if they had no one to care for them.
Mohammad married them to take care of them, and to show men that they could marry widows, and it was not wrong. He changed a whole concept of what a widow's fate was to be. It was a good thing.
