The serious fake ID industry is passports and national identity cards and driving licenses, much of it run by Albanian mobsters and many of them professionally manufactured in the Far East. Kings Cross Station in London is a center for the fake ID business, mainly for asylum seekers and other undocumented aliens who want to work.
This is one of the reasons why the USA has insisted on including electronic chips in new model passports.
There is also an interest in improving the sophistication of other identity cards, notably driving licenses. But the cost will be horrendous. The UK proposal of ID cards is stalled by that cost.

But Switzerland has only 7 million population; the UK has 60 million, the USA 300 million, with 50 states and 5 territories jealously guarding their own prerogatives.
Most of the fake ID business in the US -- the kind that would involve Mexico -- concerns phony identification to get into nighclubs and bars. That is a non-issue in foreign countries where -- in many of them -- if you are tall enough to put your money on the bar you are old enough to have a drink.
Google Groups no longer archives alt.2600.fake-id , which used to be where college-age buyers and sellers and manufacturers would hang out. I think it was the arrest of the Shadowcrew promoters, the increased penalties imposed by states for fake licenses, and the increased problem of indentity theft that has quietened that and similar forums. (You can still find the fake-ID newsgroup on some ISPs.)

not big in mexico, it will cost too much to get a fake id in mexico. but here i kno people that walk around making a sing with their hand meaning "Micas" (id's) and u can find atleast 10 guys walking around doing that sign with their hands and they can get u anything from a Birth Certificate to a Green card. so atleast close to where i leave the industry in really Big. and i think this is the people that should be sent back to their countries cus they are true crimminals, for those u can't say they work hard selling their id's

I'm sure there are a lot of people selling fake ID in Mexico,but the real problem is here in the US.Its a multi million dollar business that has attracted all kinds of people to become partners in crime.from the crude types of ID to very sophisticated laser printing firms that do it as a side business.Its a major problem here in the US because it goes virtually undetected the quality is so good.

In Springdale Ar they used be lined up for a mile to get a drivers license. They were finally shut down(it was about time). As an apartment manager almost every ID I looked at came for Arkansas and I am from there and it shamed me to know that my State was promoting such a travesty. I would say that most of the illegal Id's come from the good old U.S. of A.

not too big, u don't need a ID for anything really unless u live a a big metropolitan. however, in the US it is a big BIG business, u can find anyone in any big city that can make a fake ID. the ppl who buy them also include illegals & US citizens (young teens)!

Not sure, and I'm not sure about the fake ID industry here but last week, in central Utah, they busted a couple who had a "thriving" counterfeit ID operation.
They were creating false ID's as well as checking accounts.
Wonder who for?

I don't know in Mexico, but here, in our own backyard, my 16 yr old could get a fake drivers license far easier, and cheaper than a Mexican...
From any other kid, no immigrants involved

Go to any street corner in LA , and you can get any id you need
Mexico , has our id before, we finish printing them out.
