My family loves malt-o-meal hot cereal, and HATES oatmeal. But I would like to find an organic substitute that tastes just as good. I've tried oatmeal in every way, but we just can't stomach the texture of it as a cereal, so I only use it in baked goods. But with the winter coming up, I'd like to serve my family a nice hot cereal, that hasn't been treated with pesticides. Something with a smooth, creamy texture that tastes good being flavored w/maple syrup and brown sugar (our favorite).

Bulgur Wheat comes to mind...
It can be cooked much like farina, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc..

Additional Bonus: Bulgur wheat is one of the main ingredients in a dish called "tabouli"... (sp?)
It is a "side" salad dish, and sometimes also used as a dip..

I too am looking for a organic cereal (hot or cold) that has a malt cereal flavor, similar to the taste in discontinued Multi-Bran Chex or Ovaltine or latin american "malta" sodas.

Any help?

I know of cream of wheat, and oat bran.
Great organic hot cereal anytime.

Try porridge - nah just kidding, it's what oatmeal is called in Australia.

There's this stuff my wife eats called 'semolina' - a very smooth texture but really nice. I think you just boil it in milk or something?

seriously nice.
