You can:

A) Call your vet, they usually sell a product (I think it's called 'skunk out') that is a shampoo and give them a nice bath, or

B) Call the groomers, they may have something for you or for them to do it for you.

Tomato juice is a total joke! IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!! The baking soda, peroxide & liquid soap does work very well but I've got an easier & better one for you. As absolutely insane as it sounds, trust me, IT WORKS!

Ready for this???????? Massengil Douche!!!

I know, I know, it sounds absolutely insane but I know from experience, IT WORKS!!!

My Lab/Pit/Shepherd mix got a hold of a skunk in her mouth, it heard it spray. She let go of it, rubbed her face on the ground then went for round 2. She had the skunk in her mouth twice so her face got the worst of it. I mean REALLY BAD! I tried tomato juice (joke), I did try the baking soda, peroxide, soap mix (tedious & time consuming) but the douche is by far the best remedy. The really crazy thing about it is you're supposed to dilute the douche 10 to 1, I think. I used it full strength and it was a miracle worker!!! I couldn't smell skunk at all.

If you try it, you will be amazed.

Good Luck!

They did this on MythBusters and found that a homemade concoction of Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide and Liquid Soap to be the best for removing the odor. There are commercially made skunk-odor-removing products, but they don't work as well.

There are a couple of great products available at pet stores for skunk odor removal. Give them a call first to make sure they've got something in stock.

one bottle of hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda

mix in a bucket and sponge on dog let sit for 10-15 mintues rinse off with plain water.
If large dog double the ingredients.
It works pretty well, my dogs have been skunked a few times.

check out link below. Recipe should cut smell drastically.

But remember, since skunk spray has an oily base, the scent will have soaked into the pet's skin and it will resurface periodically (like when they get wet) for a while.

Just keep giving them a bath. It won't go away for another month or so. The more baths, the quicker it leaves though. Good luck!
