What's so weird about that?

Christianity is a religion of self-flagellation, too.

Unfortunately, there are people who are too narrow-minded, who on one hand just accuse others of things they heard from questionable sources, and on the other are not willing to find out the truth for themselves...

I bet you anything, all the people who agreed with the statement you quoted have either never met a Shia Muslim, nor have any decent source to get their information from...

That "weird stuff" that Shia Muslims do, interestingly enough comes directly from the Prophet and his holy family... Shia Islam is probably the only sect of Islam that has never been twisted and turned by individuals... it's the true peaceful Islam that the Prophet delivered.... you do not get Shia terrorists, nor do you get Shia suicide-bombers.... Shia Muslims have always been prosecuted because everyone knew they are on the right path...

for those who are truly unbiased, and who wanna find out more, please read unbiased, reliable sources... and find out for yourself what true Islam is all about...

Shi'ites are the second largest denomination of Islam. Shi'a Muslims adhere to the teachings of Muhammad and his religiously-minded family.

Sunnis are the largest denomination of Islam, making up 85-90% of all Muslims (Shi'ites are 10-15%). They are the 'folk of the tradition and congregation' and follow the teachings of Muhammad.

This is truly a wrong statement.

The word "Shia" means followers of Hazrat Ali ....and believers of the 12 imams. In the month of Moharram, we murn the grief of the martyrdom of our 3rd imam, Hazrat Hussein.

During this mourning, we wear black, cry, beat ourselves, walk over coals, etc. There are more things people do but they do it in love. Imagine if about hundreds of men die in someone's family, won't the remaining genertaions cry and mourn them.?

That's what we do. We are keeping the true message of Islam and the martyrs alive by mourning them.
