The American Revolution was about greed, not God. I'm sure they used some scripture in order to try to justify themselves, but that's the way of the world. We always try to justify our actions, even if we have to make stuff up. Greed is the biggest motivator.

If we tried to justify the war with Christian theology, we would be like the Muslims, making it a 'holy war'. The Revolution was to get out of British repression and to form our own Republic. It had nothing to do with Religion, although the Church of England was very strict and abusive back then. You can only stand suppression so long. Then it gets old and you need to get rid of it. Thus, the American Revolution.

As a history buff I wasn't aware that the American Revolution needed religious justification nor support by the Bible.
It was a war of independence against a royal government that the American colonialists felt was unjust....taxation without representation...as one point.
If you are referring to the 5th Commandment? In all wars it has be acceptable to take the live of those who you are fighting. In simplistic terms it is an issue of self defense....in the middle ages it was by Papal dispensation. Also...doesn't every side claim that God is on their side?
