What you need is just some light clothes. October is not considered as the month in the rainy season, but it happened that there are still some rain there. I would recommend you to carry some umbrella along in case of rain. Sun-grass, suntan lotion are the essential things. Sports shoes ...like jogging shoe..is more appropriate if you want to make some sight-seeing. In some place they are not allow you to wear sandal, slipper and shorts, inside such as the Royal Grand Palace. No need to carry lot of clothes as you can buy from there and cheap too. Bangkok is the great place for shopping. Welcome to Thailand and have a happy stay.

The weather is always warm in Thailand. Wear light clothing made of cotton and if the occassion doesn't demand it, wear open-toe shoes. Always bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen because the tropical sun can be quite wicked. Also don't forget to drink a lot of water while you're there.
