Bird vote.
I prefer the budgie myself. They are relatively easy to tame and they make interesting pets. I like all birds but the budgie is one of my favourites.

I have had both types of birds in my life. The love bird was easier to tame for me. We got him at a very young age. He was a black masked love bird with beautiful colors. I left him in my room with his cage open, he would sleep on my pillow with me. He would come to me when I called him. He would ride around on my shoulder and let me "pet" him. He was the best bird I ever had. My budgie was rather tempermental. She would come out and "play" on her toys, but wasnt into extreme amounts of human contact. She would sit on my shoulder and play in my hair, but didnt really want me to touch her. I think it is honestly personal preference. The budgie seemed to need more attention then the love bird did to get used to us. We also got her at a young age too.

If you get a lovebird, you will have to get two, otherwise, what would be the point. Budgies i.e. parakeets (male) can be taught to say words. If you want a budgie, check the cere (the colored spot over the beak). If it is brown, it is female. Females usually don't talk as much as males. If it is blue, it is male. Don't buy two or they will never learn to talk. The very young birds are hard to distinguish but look closely and you may see purple, which is probably the male. Get a budgie by all means. They are super fun.

Hi! Both species can be great. Lovebirds can get a bit nasty if you don't handle them consistently, whereas, once a budgie is bonded to you, they pretty much stay tame even when life gets real busy and you can't give them daily interaction sometimes.
Here's a great website that gives all kinds of information on all types of birds.

I hope you get a chance to read about the horrific condition and trauma the wild birds go through(not to mention the most heartless methods the birds were captured by) during the shipment and quarantine. and 80% of them don't make it to the pet stores. we grieve and moan about the disasters us human beings had to suffer but we don't even blink an eye when we put other species through the cruelest ordeal for our own pleasure. if you really love the birds, let them be wild and free.
