I agree with you avetrenarian... BUT... if you where staring down the barrel of a gun, (basically it does look like doogie may have passed away from heart failure within minutes, so time was of the essence) and a person next too you kicked that gun outta that guys hand, and made a citizens arrest. you would be treating him as a hero... the same applies in this case... common sense applies... the lady is a hero, just as your hero would be... in repect to taking the law into your own hand... Many, many people have been considered hero's for martyring thenselves to a cause when no authorities are around... there is no difference in this case, and this is the loophole that this Lady should be exploiting... Tammy... You are a hero!

Okay...this is not going to be a popular answer, but hear me out....
I agree that what this dog was forced to endure was an atrocity, and that his 'owners' need to be punished for it. (Visions of chaining them up over a fire ant hill and covering them in honey come to mind....)
I agree that someone needed to intervene ASAP in order to save his life.
I agree that the laws we currently have regarding animal abuse are woefully inadequate.
I agree that police many times consider animal abuse/neglect cases to be low priority (what with them having murderers, rapists, domestic violence, etc. taking up their time.)
What I don't agree with is citizens taking the law into their own hands. As it turned out, the humane officer was ON HIS WAY OUT just after this woman picked the dog up. Had she waited another 15 minutes (it sounds like), he would have been there to handle the situation properly (within the law.) There is no way he would have left the dog lying there in that bad of shape.
But let's say it was going to be another day before anyone in authority would come. Should this woman have left Doogie lying there to die? OF COURSE NOT!!!! But she went about it in all the wrong way. First of all, she didn't even pursue all legal agencies. But if she had (and still didn't get a response), ALL SHE HAD TO DO was call one of the local TV news stations, show them the pictures, and tell them the local law enforcement agencies weren't willing to help. They would have been out there with a camera crew faster than you can blink your eyes. They love stories like that. Do they do it for ratings? Sure...but they get results, by bringing it to public attention and forcing the appropriate authorities to intervene out of embarrassment that they were caught slacking off on their job. That also helps expose incompetent officers, who can then be appropriately disciplined or fired.
THAT is how you handle a situation like that. Although first instinct is to pour your heart out to this woman, there's more to the story than what is on her blog. They are playing on your emotions, and only telling you the things that will evoke a strong emotional response, and trying to make her into a martyr. Is it admirable that she did this knowing she'd face the consequences no matter what they were? Well, sorta....yeah. But she made the choice, she KNEW a better way to handle it....but decided to appoint herself police officer, judge, and jury instead. She knew the consequences, and now she has to pay them.
Why do I not have any more sympathy for this woman? Because she didn't use her brain to help Doogie and MANY MORE DOGS LIKE HIM, by handling it right. Had she done so, he would have gotten the care he needed just as fast. The problem is, if we condone regular citizens doing something like this at their own discretion, people will be 'rescuing' dogs all over the place that are being 'abused' in their own eyes. Although there is no doubt in this particular case, how would you feel if this woman came along and 'confiscated' YOUR dog who was just fine in his own backyard...just because SHE thought you weren't caring for him properly?!!! (I've seen it happen.) Not every case is as clear-cut as this one, and all I'm saying is that NO ONE has the right to take the law into their own hands just because they don't like a situation. (Same as applies to cases of human/child neglect.)

that is so sad our american system is like that. They let murders ,and drug dealers back on our street for next to nothing sometimes and somebody doing a good deed gets that kind of treatment. Very sad we live in a society like that.
In our area there was a similar situation exactly like that and the next door neighbor went and got the dog took it to the vets and called the humane society. They was really great arrested the people and they are still sitting in jail that has been about a week now . They take that stuff here pretty serious in our little town. The dog is okay and found a nice adopted home.
I would have done the same thing as she did. I can not let a animal be treated that way. That is probably why my hubby calls this place the safe house for animals I pick up every kind of stray I find lol and end up keeping them. Four cats now found as strays as kittens and now three dogs. My dog passed away last week and went to the pound just to look and there was two pups there that was going to be put down yesterday and broke my heart so here I came in with two dogs . Im a softie when it comes to animals.
When treated right your fur friends will become your best friends. They are always there for you no matter what kind of mood you are in
That is why I push for people to go to the pound and get a dog or kitten or whatever . Save a life instead of spending hundreds of dollars on dogs so you can have a show dog. Those pound puppies or kittens need good homes to and just as friendly if not more friendly then them expensive dogs

I can believe it! It breaks my heart that they would arrest her for saving an animals life and that no one else would help save doogie. We all need to help this women because it this situation the law is arresting the wrong person they need to go against the ones who did this to doogie not the one that save him! This really upsets me!!

I signed the petition to support her and I encourage all and everyone else too. It is not a hoax it is a true situation and she needs as much support as we can give her. The most painful thing is you are caring for gods creature something everyone should do yet somehow society and government laws states you are wrong.

I admire her, but it might have been better to involve higher authorities sooner.
At least she has a photo record to take to court.
