Forget diets and diet pills.

Set three eating times. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Let's use for example: 7:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 6:00 PM.

Add and subtract 15 minutes from those times. So as an example let's do lunch. Lunch time can vary between 11:15 and 11:45 as a start time. Do the same for breakfast and dinner.

No let's make these eating periods no longer than 30 minutes for the actual eating.

Get an average sized plate.

Take the normal amount of food without piling it up that will fit on the plate. Do this for each meal.

Eat only what is on that plate.

There will be no snacking or eating between meals.

Limit sodas and other drinks with sugar. Diet Rite cola is OK. Also pick drinks that have little or no salt.

Drink normal amounts of water.

The goal is to lose one pound a week.

That's right. This is the goal. If you lose more, OK. JUst work it into the average.

Do not expect results for 3 weeks to start.

Stay with this plan for the rest of your life.

Recommend starting light forms of exercise. Walking twice a day, morning and evening. Arrange your morning walk either before or after breakfast (1 hour) to help your body use the calories you intake. The same with the evening walk around dinner time. If walking is difficult, try biking or water aerobics. Stay active!

Eat smaller portions more frequently and evenly spaced throughout the day. There are a few books on changing your eating habits (dieting) that recommend 6 smaller meals a day. The idea is to prevent yourself from getting hungry by eating these "meals" about every 2-3 hours. An example of this would be a breakfast of 1 egg, 1 slice of toast, 3 or 4 strawberries, 1 unsweetened hot tea/coffee or 8-12 oz water. Then 2-3 hours later - 1 plain low-fat yogurt, 10 almonds, 8-12 oz water.

Additionally, finding the ideal number of calories you should intake for your age, height, and ideal weight will help you plan out your meals.

Recommend reading a few of the books available at any bookstore. South Beach is similar to Atkins but attempts to work in low fat foods and whole grains. Abs Diet (Mens Health) is an editors attempt at making a diet lifestyle change easier for men (good read). Sonoma Diet is for anyone who loves wine and would like to find a diet that allows them to enjoy a glass with dinner - keeping portion sizes small (good read).

Beware of diets where once you stop or go off the diet your weight will come back on. The key to maintaining the weight off is continued exercise and gradually (very slowly) adding calories until you stop losing weight.

Atkins and South Beach are examples of diets where if you don't follow the diet plan in all phases - you can put the weight back on.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I would look into a weight loss plan that will help you set new habits and attitudes. You will want to be able to lose a few pounds rather quickly within the first couple of weeks as a morale booster and then shoot for about 2-4 pounds per week.

Sometimes, supplements may be needed to help our minds get past our present way of thinking. This is the route I had to go. I tried quite a few different things to no avail.

I finally started the Stack Body Tune Up and have lost 32 pounds in 69 days.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Begin by cutting out unhealthy foods, like all fast foods and deep-fried foods. Start adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet.

Begin walking. Even if you can only do 10 minutes per day, that's a start. Increase your time when you can comfortably do so until you are walking briskly for 30 minutes per day. Walking is low-impact exercise that boosts your metabolism so your body burns more calories. The effect lasts all day!

Reduce portion sizes and eat slowly. It takes your brain 20 minutes to register the fact that you are full; by that time, most of us have already eaten more than we needed or wanted.

Avoid restaurant meals. The portions are huge and we seem to feel compelled to clean our plates. If you do eat out, resolve to eat only half of what you are served, and bring the rest home in a doggie bag for a second meal.

Six small meals a day are better than three big ones. Or snack between meals, but no bagged snacks! Choose fresh fruit, popcorn, rice cakes with a dab of peanut butter or some other healthy alternative.

Drink plenty of water. It helps you feel full and washes out toxins from your weight loss. Give up all soda. Sweetened soda contains way too many useless calories, and diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners that are not only harmful, but have the effect of increasing your craving for more sweets. If water is just too too boring, try adding a splash of lemon juice or buy some of the flavored waters.

Remember, it took years for you to put on that weight. Don't expect it to come off in weeks. Think of your diet not as a weight-loss regimen but as a lifelong plan for healthy eating and a healthier you! Good luck and don't give up!

First set a target weight, how about 20 pounds to start.
Walk everyplace, parking lot, stairs.
Drink 8 glasses of icy cold water a day.
Eat several 6-8 small meals a day, dont eat after 6-7pm except for low or no calorie jello, fruits, ices, diet soda, pop corn.

You'll feel great when you hit that 20 pound milestone!
Then move on to the next goal.

Try the Souper Soup Diet (a version of the Cabbage Soup Diet) at lillieross.com. You can sign up to receive the diet for free & they will also email you diet tips Tu-F each week. This diet really works...I have used it several times; especially when I wanted to lose fast. In fact, I’m on it now and have lost 12 lbs since last Monday.

or

Try the Fiber One Diet:
1 bowl of Fiber One cereal 3 x day (breakfast, lunch & dinner) with skim milk (I use fat free Lactaid)
1 tv dinner (400 calories or less) for dinner
Drink 64 ozs water (drink plenty water or the fiber will constipate you)
Exercise 30 minutes each day
Note: This diet keeps you very regular (bms)

GOOD LUCK!

Take a trash bag and throw out ALL the junk, white breads, icecreams...everything that isnt healthy. Then make yourself a grocery list of all the things you consider healthy, research on the internet some recipes (www.weightwatchers.com) will give you access to recipes without joining. Go to the store and get some good things, plan for what you are going to do when you get a snack craving...chips or carrots?
You also want to start moving, if you dont want to get outside then do something in your house. Tell yourself you will walk in place for 10 min straight, pick goals and stick to them. Its all in your mind too. You will stick to it if you are really committed. Some people need a group too so think about joining something too.
Good luck on your decision! I hope you go far :)

Stop eating all the junk food immediately, if you do...chips, ice cream, soft drinks, breads, fast food, well...you know the list...the stuff you love the most is probably the worst for you. Drink plenty of water and start by walking more... Perhaps 20 minutes walks every day for a whole week and then increase. Is say walk because it is the best exercise with the least amount of impact on your joints.
