I bought an aerial recently which is a TV but also FM/AM one. It has one of those 'male' type connectors on it ie a pin. However my stereo also has the same type of connector. What is the name for the adapter I would need to be able to use? Its an excellent stereo I just need the aerial to boost the pickup for the radio signal in my area (rural). All i can get at the mo is local commerical radio which does my nut! I want radio 1,2,3,4 etc!

Not quite sure what you mean? But if the plug on the aerial is the same as the connector on your stereo, then you need a female to female co-axial connector or coupler.

Take the aerial into an electrical shop and explain the problem.

Any good hifi shop should be able to sell you a double ended female adapter. If not just get some copper wire and either solder or wire the two bits together.
