Food, wine and DVD are on the agenda with a nice young lady. What would people suggest I 1) cook and 2) chose as the DVD to watch? Bear in mind that I intend to make a good impression...

I think the wine needs to match the food - pizza and champagne is not a match. I think a fine Austrian Grüner Veltliner (dryish white wine) and some salmon steaks might cut the mustard - maybe I am wide of the mark. DVD suggestions still very welcome!

Tuna steak...put it in a jiffy bag with soy sauce, garlic, lots of fresh lime juice, chillies and a little sesame oil...then put it in the fridge for an hour. after an hour turn it over and make sure its soaking all the juices. Leave it for as long as you can before you need to cook it. Then steam some asparagus and grill lots of baby tomatoes add whatever other veg you want or noodles. It's heaven! DVD...Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Kate Winslet and Jim Carey is brilliant. It will Impress.

A grilled steak and baked potatoes - and maybe a salad. (This is pretty reliable - because most people like this - and you won't run into the problem of making something she might not like - unless she is a vegetarian)
Any movie that is not violent or sexually explicit.
A good romantic comedy - Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo. Two Weeks Notice is good with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. 13 Going on 30 with Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo.
More serious movies: Walk The Line (story of Johnny Cash) - good movie.

This is ABSOLUTELY my favourite "impress a lady" dish. Forget about the squash and serve with some form of mash. Make it interesting with spring onions or mustard etc. It is dead easy to do and so nice. It really is a find.
Have a great evening!!! You are on your own with the DVD

DVD, Pizza and Champagne. Or you could cook. My g/f is a veggie and loves it when I cook Green pesto with roasted pine nuts mixed into penne and covered with some grated parmigiano and black pepper. Oh and a cool beer. Comfort food only problem is that she loves her girlie films. Have to educate her.

Every woman is a sucker for toast with butter and jam. This will really set you on your way to outside topsies.
Full Metal Jacket will bring about a likely trip to knickerland.
Tina Turner's simply the best in the background will absolutely guarantee you visiting her nutbush city limits.
Good luck.

I think get a take out delivered - it will just give you that more time with her oppossed to flying out checking on the pots and pans etc!
DVD - something light like in her shoes would be a good one I think - kinda a chick flick - yet you can oggle Cameron Diaz walking round in her undies!!!
I think Id be well chuffed if I spent an evening like that! Hope it goes well for you!

Love is the answer to everything. All you ever need is love,
communication and understanding. That's what I figured out so
far. If you are down, you need to get up and start doing something with
your life. Don't need to be shy, be straight forward and allways say what
you want and expect from the others.

Cook crap but appear to try, watch whatever YOU like she'll most probably like it (because it's a first date) then she can't moan later on in life about your choice of films. Don't pander to her, otherwise you'll suffer later.
