Cheap ones... do you want to spend a fortune on plates you are just going to smash.
Go to wal-mart and get plain white ones.

My husband is Greek and there were no smashing plates at our wedding or reception. Where did you hear about this?

I completely trust Endevide. very reliable prognosis of the custom. quick, definite, no longer all Greeks damage plates in the present day. yet nonetheless, it truly is our custom and after we get to "kefi" we do it. many years in the past my first cousin were given married and instead of having a cold formal reception like maximum persons do those days ( fairly in cities like Athens ), we had a social gathering on the line outdoors our abode. trust me, the subsequent day my mom's kitchen and my aunt's suffered a shortage of plates. We smashed a looot of them!!! And we looooved it.

Smashable ones. Probably best to avoid glass too. But then I'm not Greek so I don't really know...
