I have a German Shepherd/Collie cross. 6 yearsd old who is as good as gold a part from when we put her in the car to take her for a walk and she does these very high pitched barks that are ear piercing along with being dangerous as they make me so stressed when Im driving.

There are a few things that be causing her to do this.
1. Excitement of going for a ride.
2. The noise of the engine or something else in the car sets her off.
3. She doesn't like being in the car.
The only thing you can do is use dog biscuits or doggie treats of some kind to teach her to be quiet in the car. Talk to her in a calming voice. And give her the treats if she stays quiet. It will take a while as she is a grown dog and not a puppy. But it should work.
I hope this helps, the only other thing I can think of is talk to her vet. Or someone at the pet supply store.
Good luck.

Firstly, the dog is "telling" you she does not like the car.....for whatever reason, the sounds, the movement, it could be several things and secondly, stop taking her if you are finding it to be stressful because of the barking...driving is dangerous enough without being stressed out or distracted. Leave your dog home and every one will be happy.... and safe!

my dad has the same problem with his lab, spaniel cross, she wines from the minute they leave the house to the minute that she gets out of the car...

He used to open the window enough to get her nose out, and used to talk to her to calm her down, this worked a treat and it helps to build confidence in the car. After a while, she got used to the car, and now makes no noise...
