Please don't do it. It will make you sick. I don't think it does work ( my midwife told me it doesn't).
If you do be aware it will give you a horrid case of Diarrhoea, and may pass through to the baby and make him poo aswell when he is still in your belly.

I've heard of women who have taken Castor oil which has given them the terrible runs and in some cases makes baby have a bowel movement whilst in the womb - which can be dangerous. Some people say pineapple eaten fresh will help but you'd have to eat an awful lot of it to work. The best thing possible is sex because it releases hormones that can bring on labour. Raspberry leaf tea/capsules can help not only to induce labour but to shorten the actual labour. If you're overdue you can ask your midwife for a stretch and sweep - that often works. In the meantime walk around as much as possible and baby will come when he/she is ready. Good luck.

Inducing Labor Using Caster Oil

I happen to know how well castor oil really works! Although it was nothing great to drink, I mixed it with Pepsi and within 2 hours I was having strong contractions, and successfully induced myself with all 4 of my children using this. Beware of diarrhea though, this acts as a laxative if it doesn't put you into labor.

I definitely know castor oil works! But be careful. I took about 3 teaspoons with my 2nd son, and labor occurred so quickly I had him at home on the living room floor! I walked around the mall for 2 hours not knowing I was in labor, just assuming I was cramping because I had nothing left to let out (if you know what I mean). I do however have a better alternative to the orange juice! Take it with coke or Pepsi (something very carbonated) it helps to "dissolve" the thickness of the oil. Stir it A LOT, and it won't taste 1/2 as bad as with the orange juice.

The way castor oil is used to induce labour is by giving you sever diaorrhea, which stimulates to uterus to start contracting as quite often the body 'flushes out' your bowels before labour, so taking castor oil simulates this.
HOWEVER it's very dangerous and can make you very ill. The baby will also feel ill as the ingredients in the castor oil pass through the placenta to the baby so I would strongly advise against even thinking about it!
Try raspberry leaf tea, clary sage baths, nipple stimulation, curries and sex!

during my first pregnancy i took Castor oil for two weeks all that happened was i had a sore bottom. it didn't help with labour at all. you are now advised not to take Castor oil because it has been found to be dangerous for you and your baby try fresh pineapple, raspberry leaf tea/capsules, and the best one is to have orgasm's your body creates oxitocin which is also the hormone created when you go in to labour or given when you are induced it may take several attempts but its great fun

hey, i believe that it works. It makes you have loose bowel movements and brings on contractions. When i was pregnant i was dilating and having period pain for about 3 weeks and got very fed up with it so i tried everything. I think i had about 3 tablespoons mixed with orange juice on 2 different days and both times i think i only went to the toilet once and got a few pains and that was it. It wouldve fastened things up though i think, but it would be different for everyone too. Work for some and not others. I will definately try it again with my next baby, and i wont be scared this time of the taste or of how much to take! Goodluck!

From what I've heard you would not want to take castor oil period. When I was overdue I was looking for ways to induce labor and tried everything except castor oil. I have heard nothing but horror stories about it. It seems it gives most women the worst possible case of diarrhea and a raw butt and doesn't induce labor after all. I have no personal experience, these are just the stories I heard from several women who tried it. I wasn't desperate enough to do that.

From my own experience Castor oil works for some people and does nothing for others.Personally with my second child i was in labor for close to 8 hours and the mid wife told me that the reason was that my bowels were not empty and that a full bowel normally delays labor she adviced that next time i should take Castor oil with some warm water when i had labor pains that it will speed up my labor.I tried it and it worked.I told this to 2 of my friends who were over due they both tried it one went into labor soon after and had her baby but the other simply emptied her bowels but labor still didn't come. Some i advice you give it a try if you are really eager and see if it works but i don't think it does harm just make sure you drink a lot of water if your labor does not start.i wish you good luck.

The reason castor oil was used to make women go into labour was because it plays havoc with your bowels, and thus gets everything else moving.

Same reason for curry being used to induce labour.

Don't use castor oil! It is not good for you or your baby. If you are eager for your baby to make an appearance, go for a walk. I did it and 2 hours later I was in labour!
