It is possible it will flower (grow) next spring/summer. It may also spread and quickly.
All you can do is wait and see, I've had to rot and grow, it seems to be hit or miss.

The best way to grow onions is from seed or from sets - these are small onions that have been grown a bit, and reasonably disease free.
I think if you are in the Northern hemisphere at this time of year, it will most likely rot.
If you are lucky, you may get a ring of little onion plants around the outside, and get some spring onions next year !

Hopefully it will flower next summer. Collect and plant the seeds.
Chances are, it is a hybrid and will be infertile or only produce very small bulbs. I would just buy some seeds from the garden centre. They will cost less than a pound and should give you enough onions to feed a family for the whole year.

If the onion was showing signs of growth you will get an onion back, which in time will spread by itself. On the othere hand it may just lay and rot, try to not keep it to wet that will make rotting a very good possibility, moist earth and sunshine will tell the tale. Good Luck

Well apparently everyone else thinks it will rot. I have done that and the onion took root and grew. Depends on where ya live and the climate this time of year. So, just wait and see.

plant some cheese and bread and hopefully a cheese and onion sandwich tree will grow. You can sell what sandwiches you don't eat to people and make a profit on the side.
