The plot was complex, since by that time the number of Germans who understood that they had made a mistake in supporting Hitler was very large. The acknowledge leading person of the 20th July plot to kill Hitler was Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (15 November 1907 – 21 July 1944),a German army officer.
Graf (that is Count) von Stauffenberg was a descendant of great Prussian military leader August von Gneisenau (honored by, among other things, the name in the battleship). Many in the opposition to Hitler were moved by their religious beliefs, that is true Christians are against Nazism and racism. You will find more about this here:
