I think it has something to do with the time it takes for a medicine to reach its peak effectiveness in the blood. But I would like to hear from someone who knows.

It is the duration of action of drugs. Say a drug has a half life of 8 hours then in 24 hours you need to take 3. one every eight hours and so on
