Why is it that as a kid (and kids in general) I could program a video recorder without looking at the instruction manual and probably quicker than the manufacturers?

I think it's more a case of as a kid your not scared of getting things wrong as much and nothing fazes you. Once you get older you think of the consequences far too much and of course if your a kid you don't have to fork out the hundred squid to replace if you really knack it up :-)

My daughter is four and has been using the computer since she was 18 months old. She can't read or write yet but can manage to download music and play online games without knowing the instructions!

Maybe because your brighter, more alert and think quicker, I am hopeless with anything electronic or gadget wise, my young nephew can sort anything out, maybe us oldies are more afraid of what will happen to it if we get it wrong and kids see no danger.
