Decidual Bleeding
One of the most common causes of period-like bleeding during pregnancy is called decidual bleeding. Sometimes, during pregnancy, your body’s hormones can get out of whack, causing you to lose parts of the lining of your uterus. This is especially common in the early stages of pregnancy, before the lining has completely attached to the placenta. While it can be troublesome to think about shedding part if your uterine lining, decidual bleeding is generally not thought to be a health threat to you or your baby.

The only way to tell a higher chance is if you have a female relative who also menstruated while pregnant. Some women are just "lucky" I guess.

BTW, did you realize sometimes breastfeeding will halt your periods? Another one for heredity (the only decent thing I got from my mother)

It is due to over-active ovaries. Your body has been producing an egg from each tube every month. Now one of those eggs has been fertilized but the other keeps working as though nothing happened. That totally sux! I'm sorry. You doctor should have some suggestions on how to help this.

it is more common than most ppl would think.
some women with a blood group neg, instead of postive blood group are more likely to bleed during pregnancy,
sometimes just spotting or sometimes have a normal period all the way threw.

but bledding during pregnancy is also a bad sign,
and usually is the first sign of miscarrige so you should always go to the doctor as soon as you see blood to be sure

im not sure whos more common to get it. Its weird though. but its not supposed to be a full on period, just kinda light bleeding, although, some people get bad bleeding. Everyone reacts to things differently and it catches people off guard. I have only known one woman to have had their period while they were pregnant. And she didnt know she was until she went into labor.

I had 2, the first month and second month. I have no idea why either. I told my doc and he said it just happens sometimes, but it isn't a true "period". Was weird though, not getting it is almost the best thing about my pregnancy (almost!).

I think it is the lack of some hormone produced during pregnancy. The lack of such hormone does not give your body the correct signal of pregnancy and therefore the body continues working as if there is no pregnancy.

Size of the body doesn't matter, it's just how your body's system takes a pregnancy. I am physically fit and bled with two out of three of my pregnancies.
