I am breastfeeding my 3 week old and sometimes she gets fussy like she wants to suck on my breast but not nurse. Iv'e tried the NUK newborn pacifiers; silicone and rubber. She hates them. When I give her a paci during one of her fits it pushes her over the edge. Is there a paci more like a womans breast? I tried giving her my breast but shes sucks for a few secs and pushes it away. I don't know what else to do.

Well have you spoke to her pediatrician? there are many diffrent types of pacifiers. i just found one ive never seen before. when my daughter was hospitalized at 1 1/2 months old they had a green pacifier which was more like the nipple of a small bottle or a breast nipple and she loves it. try all diffrent pacifiers you can find maybe she just hasnt found one she likes yet. nuk nipples are suppose to be the best but i think they are not small enough well it wasnt for my children. they never liked nuk but did like the ones like thier nipple

I'd keep trying, my son, also breast fed took to the Gerber NUK...but yours may be different... all I know is that the Paci was a God send becuase otherwise he wanted to use me for his Paci and as I'm sure you know you can't get alot done that way...LOL...good luck... maybe introduce her to her own thumb...

(Warning: My son will be 3 in November and still has his doggone Paci...so...who knows what the right thing to do is!)

Pacifiers are one of the things you need to keep trying till you find the right one. Buy a new kind every week and see if she likes it, if not try a new kind next week. Its not just the shape you need to consider its the type of material the pacifier is made from.

my daughter sucked her thumb inside me. (16 years ago) and my other daughter sucked on a nuk. i would rather have my child suck on a nuk over a finger any day. you can take the nuk away. but how are you gonna take her finger away? she sucked on that finger until she was in 4th grade. which messed up her teeth, so we had to take her to the orthodontist. but before he could put braces on her he had to install a device in the roof of her mouth to keep her from sucking $6000. later her teeth were good and she didn't suck her finger anymore. basically what I'm saying is find something before she discovers her hands or you could end up like this.

Not sure if they have them in your part of the globe, but here in Australia tommee tippee have just bought out a new range which has a teat just like the breast. It is designed so that the teat is flexible so when baby sucks the nipple flattens and extends. The range is called closer to nature.

The only pacifier my son will take is made by Avent. I have tons of pacifiers lying around that he refuses to touch. She may just be one of the kids that don't like pacifiers and is actually happier with her hand.

The only brand me and my brother took was MAM. That young she will need a "mini MAM" Try that. But give it to her when she's not having a fit and see if she will take it. Because if you try while she having a tizzy nothing but the breast may satisfy her.

My children all love the green Soothie pacifiers they gave them in the NICU. You can buy them at Target.
