Can someone explain to me how I can get hearts etc., to insert into my avatar please?

What do I do on my keyboard? I know how to do when using word but not on here. Thanks.

OMG you are very generous hearted thank you. However, I am unable to do as you suggested...it will only copy your strings and not the symbol. Good idea though.
