There can be a number of possible scenarios how the world will end. It can be man-made disaster like a nuclear holocaust, or some mutated virus etc. But more probable are natural disasters. Like if Earth gets out of its orbit around the sun and starts moving head-long in the Universe. Or a big enough Meteor strikes the Earth (Did you see the movie Armageddon?). Sun is a young star and it will continue to supply us with solar energy for a very long time, but it may run out of nuclear energy eventually.
I have another nagging fear which is much worse than the end of this world. If the Earth is destroyed it is theoretically possible that we may take a refuge on some other planet (like Mars) or may be a planet on some other Galaxy. But have you ever thought about the end of the Universe?
My common sense dictates that all the matter in the Universe is finite while the empty space is infinite. If we divide any number by infinity the end result will be zero. Does this means that all the matter in the Universe will ultimately be annihilated?
Some people answer this question by saying that energy and matter are indestructible. It may be true. But consider this, what good the matter will do when each atom or quark or anyother smallest particle which the science may tell us in future, is distributed in the empty space of one billion square miles or more?
Thus is my view, whatever we may or maynot do, is at best meaningless. Because all this is so temporary. Humans die, Humankind will become extinct, Earth can't last forever, And Entropy is a rule in the Universe, where each particle will be randomly distributed in the infinite reaches of Empty Space.

According to astronomers, the Earth should last for at least five billion more years before the sun becomes a red giant. Due to the sun's loss of mass the Earth would escape to an orbit at a further distance than its current orbit. The immense heat however would likely boil off the oceans and turn the Earth into a barren wasteland looking like Mars does. If the Earth survived this event, the sun would further evolve into a white dwarf and provide too little heat to sustain life.
Others say the atmosphere will lose its water vapor to space within 1.1 billion years because the sun will become about 10% hotter, and that the oceans will evaporate within 3.5 billion years when the sun is 40% hotter. In 3.5 billion years the Andromeda Galaxy may collide with ours and may wipe out some solar systems.
Most scenarios concerning the ultimate fate of the universe would subsequently destroy the Earth.

Humans could very well wipe out all life themselves at any point in the future. Or maybe another ice age or asteroid strike. But if you're talking about earth as a planet:
In about 4-5 billion years time when the sun runs out of fuel, it will expand and engulf Mercury and probably Venus. It's expansion will probably stop short of the earth but the close proximty of the sun and it's heat would have killed everything alive by then anyway. Once the sun has shrunk to a white dwarf, it's gravity far weaker, Earth will be released from it's orbit and wander off into space. Then what? Collide with another planet? Get sucked into a black hole? Fall into the gravity of another star? Get broken up by the gravity of a larger planet?

The last book of the Bible is The Revelation. It is a figurative interpretation (as described by a man living around 100AD) of events that we can now only begin to imagine. Likewise, there are some events that are laid down in the book of Daniel that refers to events that will take place near the end.
Making no attempt to prophesy, I suspect that the world will end in a series of astreroid impacts. The book of The Revelation refers to a "mountain" falling into the seas, the sun going black, water being poisoned, etc. All these ar the kinds of things you would expect from such an impact.
The old earth will be done away with and God will remake the earth anew and will dwell with mankind.

The Earth will end when the Sun exhausts its hydrogen fuel and expands, thus engulfing the earth, unless its gravity weakens and the earth slips away in two or three billion years. That's if the interior of the earth don't cool down first. If this happens we could end up like Mars, a very cold place, an ice age to end all ice ages

I don't know how the planet itself will end, but I have always thought that humanity would bring about it's own downfall in a rather 28 Days Later fashion. I have ALWAYS thought that some less than intelligent scientist somewhere will develop some type of freaky, deadly, highly contagious disease. In the process of testing it on some innocent, unfortunate animals; some radical "do gooder" organization will ill-advisedly set them free to spread their infection.
Just how I think it will go down.
Now that I think on it, I think that the planet itself will cave in under the massive weight of the world's trash.

It can be:
1) A large meteorite landed on Earth, destroying all forms of life.
2) Humans created a form of energy too powerful as the technology became too advanced , thus destroying themselves.
3) Humans chopped off all plants on Earth, disrupting the relationship (Yin-Yang alike) of Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen.

Someone will walk by their PC and see the Earth screen saver. Then they will marvel at how much this planet and all forms of life have evolved. Then they will decide it's time for a more interesting screen saver as this one is out of date. They will delete us!

I don't think the world will end unless humanity tries to explode it to smithereens. We could wipe ourselves out or a freak (I don't believe in freaks) natural event occurs. The world would still exist in some form or another.

We will industrialize ourselves into extinction. Ongoing problems handling day to day garbage - where will it all go when the dumps are at capacity? The garbage never stops. We sprawl our cities out further, taking beautiful farmland and forests to clear-cut new homes and businesses. Where do you have dumps? Where are we building? Who will win when we are down to the last acre of land and someone wants another dump and someone wants another community of luxury homes?
