Normal dell laptops dont hav esuch a problem
i doubt its the copy protection in new dvds that doesnt allow us to play in computers!!!!
you can play that only on dvd players. try the dvd in other computers,

there are some possibilities that you need to check, depending on the error message you are getting. Since, you have not mentioned the error message, I am listing down some possibilities
1) The regular DVD may not be working properly (make sure that it is working by running it on some other player)
2) The regional settings of the DVD may be different from the regional settings of your DVD player (check it out).
