There are a whole bunch of Walnut tree around my house and they are dropping the little green balls with the walnuts in them. They keep dropping them on the roof of the house and a few have hit the car-which is now housed in the garage. When will they stop dropping the nut? How much longer to I have to look forward to the *ping**ping**thump* of the walnuts hitting the house and the ground? Sometimes it sounds like somone is trying to break into the house. Gets kinda creepy.

By the way, if this helps I live in west central Illinois. And they have been dropping for the past few weeks, 2 or so, and there still apears to be tons of the little boggers still in the trees.

I live in the same area of the county and I have the darn pesky walnut trees as well. My husband said, also previous experience, said that they wont stop falling until about the same time all the leaves on the tree are gone. That is roughly how long it takes. That should be a better time frame than a week or 2 or a month or so. Atleast you will be able to tell with your tree, since all are different.

I live in Indiana (northern) and my walnuts just started to drop (about 2 weeks ago). You have at least another month to look forward to the dropping. What will help is a nice, big storm coming thru and then they will drop in the high winds. (I feel your pain. Walnut trees are one of the messiest trees ever!!) Luckily i have 3 kids that go out and pick up before mowing. At least a month!!!
Just a little side note---not that you asked--- but walnuts are toxic to tomato plants so NEVER have a garden or tomato pots near your Walnut tree.

I live in West Virginia and the walnuts are just now startin gto drop, depending on weather conditions, one to two weeks is the normal period but if you get some excessive wind it will help bring them down much sooner. Good Luck and by the way sorry about your car, your not alone out there when this happens this time of year. LOL

Depends on your area. Walnuts are the first trees in our area (besides catalpa) to defoliate, and they keep dropping nuts for several weeks after that. The trees are naked now, and we're just seeing about one third of the nuts still in place. Zone 5
