My old one was a Redring and it was never great. Can anyone recommend a good basic shower that keeps a constant temperature and good pressure. Dont know if this helps but I live in a bungalow and havent got a water pump. My neighbour just got a Mira Sport shower and is happy with it so I was thinking about getting one of them but wanted to wait to see if you had any other recommendations.

Mira Sport is a good shower, get at least a 9.8Kw for a decent flow. You don't need, and in fact must not use a pump with an 'Instant' shower, they work off mains pressure only. You may have to upgrade the supply cable if the old shower was low power, also check earthing and bonding and ensure that you have a 30ma RCD fitted in the circuit, also a DP isolator.

Power showers can also be electric showers. Some power showers have the pump built inside the unit and will still have an isolator switch on the wall out side the room or a pull cord on the ceiling. An instant electric shower will only have 1 supply pipe and a big thick cable, the power shower has 2 pipes. Employ a plumber to check out the faults and to carry out any necessary repairs. The element in the tank might just be needing a thermostat and the shower might be repairable. The shower does sound like some kind of thermostatic mixer shower as it does work when you heat the water in the tank via the oil boiler. Swapping the shower like for like will be your cheapest option.

Electric showers should not even be sold. I was a plumber and I ended up with 15 of them in my garage. My customers were so disgusted with them that they had me fit proper pumped showers in lieu. Always provided that you have a good supply of hot water.
I know you are going to say but we dont have hot water in the summer when the heating is off, well, get a device that gives you hot water only and not radiators, they are not too expensive.

I can recommend a Mira Sport too. We had one in our last home. Waiting and saving up to get another!

I like Triton showers - I've had three (in different bathrooms) and they've always been reliable. I've found the after sales care very good too.

Mira is good and Triton is also good. I use the Triton T90Si. Very good.
