Something a bit more portable, and better visual effect is a fire extinguisher,
That way you can chase after them and your not limited by the length of your hose.
Of course until you get one continue with the hose.

It's acceptable, but you should make sure they are not bringing food over first. If they're carrying food, make them put it on the doorstep first, THEN blast them.
