I just don't see him as The Joker, either - Caesar Romero was terrific, in a really camp style, but Heath Ledger is not old enough, nor does he have the presence to play it that way. Perhaps he feels the need to go in a completely different direction from his little trip to the "Mountain" ?

I think they'll kind of make him look like the tradition Joker, but not completely.
This Batman series is going in an entirely different direction than all the other movies. As you said, he's a vigilante. Look at the suit, and the the batmobile. Nontraditional. Gordon's not commissioner yet, and someone other than Alfred (Freeman's character) knows Batman's secret identity.
I like how they've thrown tradition out the window, and only kept the core details of the franchise. No doubt Ledger will portray Joker as a madman, albeit different from the likes we've ever seen.
I look forward to the continuation of Bail's Batman. I think a change couldn't hurt the franchise, especially looking at "Batman & Robin".
And Heath Ledger, without a doubt, will be able to play such an evil man. He's very talented.

Huuum.. Don't know, Heath Ledger is a good actor but he always picks funny roles and it's hard to see him as the joker....... I mean the joker is the biggest bad guy for batman,+ the new movie batman begins, batman has put the bars really hi and they won't put Heath if they thout he could'nt do it

Heath Ledger is an excellent actor and he could be perceived as a more sinister character in looking like everyone else. It's the jokers mental instability that made him what he was not necessarily his looks. You could look and that makeup and KNOW he was off BUT, if he looks like Heath Ledger you wouldn't.

I agree to a large extent with Thaylen M. Heath Ledger has shown himself to be a good actor. I can't see him being as good as Jack Nicholson was, but I'd love it if he was.
Batman Begins was great, lets hope they make another film that does Batman justice. He is a great superhero!

He won't give it up but i can't see him in the role either. I'd sooner see Carrot Top in the role than Ledger. You are looking for a half crazed NewYorker type. Johnny Depp I could believe. Robert Downey Jr. I could believe. But Broke Back Joker, no way.

No sorry can't see it. They need someone who can play comedy and all I've seen Heath Ledger in is drama. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
