I have mostly written user manuals and I am now entrusted with the task of writing a module wise Training manual for the software product developed by our company. Would sincerely appreciate your immediate answers for my question.

A training manual is a kind of course that people take to learn how to do something, a user manual is for people using that software to give them quick tips... So, the difference would be that a training manual starts from the ground up and teaches you as much as possible about the subject in a structured manner whereas a user manual helps you get started and then offers solutions to various problems you may encounter while using the product...

Example...

A training manual for walking would start of telling you what walking is, why it's nice to be able to walk and then teach you how to put one foot in front of the other etc etc...

A walking user manual would have answers to questions like I'm putting one foot in front of the other but I keep falling over, what's going wrong? (answer...Have you had too much alcohol? if so, that's probably why... If not, maybe there's a lot of wind?)

You have to think about your audience with this. Who is going to be reading this training manual, and how much knowledge of the product will they have? Will they be familiar with the technical jargon? Or will you be developing this for people who have little or no experience with computers? At that point, layman's terms and lots of diagrams and pictures! Good luck with your project.
