has little to do with income level,

But values,

there is not another choice normally beside democrat and republician.

democrats represent and try to get laws for fringe groups, such as gay rights, gay marriage, abortion rights, taking away religoius rights and the such.

My only real thought is how the democrats can ever keep the southern democrats on party. And why blacks are not all republicans from the track records of what each party has done for the minority. It was the southern democrats that were the ones fighting against civil rights and the republicans that were for it.

Even though I am independent, I vote more often for Republican candidates than Democrats. Basically for the values they espouse. I would consider myself a conservative in most areas. I don't like Gay marriage, I also hate abortion but believe it is a moral decision not the Governments, I think Welfare should be workfare, and Illegal Aliens should be trucked back to their home country. Most Rural people are poor but they believe in the old motto of, "stand on your own two feet". Plus I believe in National Security, a strong military, and in God we trust"! And to surprise a few of you I am well educated, have an IQ that is not Genius but described as gifted. I also left an extremely good paying job that would have let me retire at a young age to work in public safety at 1/3 the salary. Money is not everything. I have never heard a dying person talk about their portfolio or their bank account yet.

It isn't about the money. It's about the views and values of the GOP being more concentric with the views and values of the American people than anything offered us by the democrats.

When liberals identify the republicans as the party of the rich they betray how little they understand their adversaries (you can not defeat an enemy without first understanding them) or the American people.

In fact, I would not be surprised if the democratic party crumbles to dust and is replaced by the libertarians in 20 years.

Because that is the party I identify with the most. I mean, I don't agree with everything they stand for, but if I made a list, the Republican party would have the most checks.

The best explanation is the 'deference theory'. Certain poor people believe that they *deserve* their lowly place in the economic hierarchy and are willing to vote for the party that is most likely to maintain that.

They are undereducated and don't understand that their party does not help people in their income bracket. The Republican party is based on the concept that everyone takes care of themselves. Of course, that's impossible.
