Apollos 11 - 17 were manned missions to the moon, Apollo 13 didnt land, the rest did, thats 6 missions that landed on the moon, each mission carried 2 men to land and an additional man to stay on board the space craft, that totals 12 different people walking on the moon, all were men, no ladies been to the moon yet!

The space program that put the man on the moon namely the NASA Apollo Program there where a total of 17 missions. Apollo 1 never took off as the spaceship took fire and killed the astronauts on board. All the rest took off but Apollo 11 was the first one to land on the moon. All the ones before where something like reconessence missions to prepare fot Apollo 11. After that the rest landed succesfully on the moon except for Apollo 13 which suffered a catastrophic failure and could not land. Therefore that leaves a total of 6 times, Apollo 11,12,14,15,16 and 17 and a bunch of 12 different people have walked on the moon.

6 landed: Apollo 11, Apollo 12 (including Alan Bean who I've met and is AMAZING!), Apollo 14, Apollo 15, Apollo 16, Apollo 17
Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to orbit the Moon, Apollo 13 'had a problem'.
The USSR sent up the Luna probes before NASA first landed in 1969, and NASA had also sent up the Surveyor probes too.
